After over a year and a half out I have big doubts that Charlie is going to come back to standard. We need a leader like him in the team but he was hardly the best footballer before his injury, so have doubts he will ever get back in the side.

We really did miss him when he got injured though, one of the reasons we got relegated that season IMHO.

It's a long time for a fella his age to be out of football but nobody will know if he can still do it or not until he try's.

He gave a talk at my other half's school in Patcham on Tuesday. Apparently out of the 40 odd kids in attendance only a couple of them had any real interest in BHA. He told them that the best time of his playing career to date was at.............B.....r....entford! Said he hated his time at Torquay as it was in the middle of nowhere.

Agree with that, but after such along time out will he be the same player? I very much doubt it.

Players simple don't recover from those sort of injuries and long absences, OK he may play again but he won't be the same player, uh uh, no way.

I agree, still his game wasn't about pace ect. I think he still may be able to do a job.

On NSC for over two decades...
Best of luck to him I say. The club are offering him a month-to-month contract, which I think is sensible. If he proves his fitness then good, if not then both parties can move on.

Roy Keane Did.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

Agree, lets wait and see what he can do. Don't write him off just yet.

One thing is for certain-if anyone in our current squad can do it, it'll be Charlie. He will give it 100%, that we can be sure of.

Good luck to him in his efforts.

I am optimistic.

A year-and-a-half off for injury, surgery, and recovery is par for the course in baseball for the arm surgery pitchers undergo known as Tommy John surgery -- a tendon transplant -- and any number of pitchers have solid, even exceptional careers

Surely a pitcher's arm is as stressed, and is as vulnerable as a soccer player's legs....

Possibly more stressed and vulnerable. A fastball is not kind to the arm and shoulder. 8 innings of doing that every 4th or 5th day and it's amazing these guys last the whole season.

If we keep Bertin, can't see Oatway being in the first 11, but he may prove me wrong. Hammond and Bertin centre mid or a diamond of Bertin, Reid, Hammond, Cox

I was a big critic of Charlie... thought he brought nothing to the team for a long, long time... then, for that half-season before he got injured, he was vital to our midfield... really put himself about but, for the first time, with purpose... and when he passed, he kept it simple... didn't give the ball away as he had done earlier... so, I wish him a swift recovery to full fitness.... he can make a real diffrerence in L1, IMHO...
