I must admit i know very little about the KKK, perhaps i should investigate. Have they shot, beheaded or blown anybody up.

Has not made any news outlets but there was an attempted bombing of the NAACP headquarters the day before the Charlie Hebdo attacks. Racist attacks by white supremacists don't fit the preferred terrorist narrative though.

Silly media for getting all hyped up over a few beheadings and shootings, it is the white supremacist that are the current scourge ........

Another thing is that a few, mainly American news outlets, along with someone from the CIA says that yesterday was the worst terrorist attack in Europe since 7/7. I guess that what Anders Breivik did in Norway isnt a terrorist attack then because he wasnt a Muslim, in fact he was anti-Islam.

It's not about how many, and I'm not trying to claim any high ground. It's about the contact people have in their everyday lives. The people I hang out with treat these sort of incidents in the same most people do. They are outraged/upset/saddened.

As for statements, the press and media have reported loads of public denunciations of extremism by Muslim leaders and representatives.

I don't doubt that your friends or the people with whom you have contact in your everyday life, treat the sort of incident in Paris with disdain, but the issue of numbers was, don't forget, brought up by you when you asked how many muslims people know! But I do see what you mean. Yes, there have been regular denunciations -not sure if have heard of loads, but happy to accept what you say - but with respect, this is not quite the point. I just have not seen any real evidence en masse that the fanatics are as isolated as we care or want to believe; I could be wrong, I fully accept. But given that the muslim community has so much to gain from reaching out to the wider community, it seems almost like a deafening silence.

The most accurate shot these terrorists executed yesterday was when they shot themselves in the foot. These guys are so far radicalised they don't realise that the cause of Islam is further tarnished Worldwide.
Charlie Hebdo has become famous, far from getting rid of their view that Muhammad has been ridiculed, everyone all over the World now sees these cartoons.

They have lynched a fair few in their time. Try The Scottsboro Boys........Or listen to Strange Fruit by Billie Holliday.

Ok. I had a look and most of the atrocities are from many years ago. I also had a quick peek at the Crusades and mad Edward's army, just in case they are compared to what is happening now.

It has been profoundly depressing on so many levels. Obviously the mass killing first and foremost, your heart goes out to family and friends of the victims. They went to work, they drew some cartoons, they got murdered where they sat. It is beyond belief.

What I think the coverage has also shown is that we are not quite the 'home of satire' that we like to think. I don't think many of those cartoons of the prophet would have got published in the UK (we haven't had that kind of thing much at all), and the French tradition remains stronger and more hard-hitting. Tragically, they have paid the highest possible price for that freedom of expression.

There are probably editors sitting in the UK today thinking 'I'm really glad I didn't publish this cartoon or that cartoon about Mohammed', and it may even have saved loss of life, but on this issue Charlie Hebdo were braver, arguably the bravest, and it is tragic what has happened. This is not a war we can afford to lose to the terrorists.

Wrong, extensively covered in America and their was a report in the Daily Mail.Do not think you can compare the reporting of an explosive device which knocked a few things off the wall with the killing of twelve people.

No I didn't. I wondered how many people have contact with muslims.

It's you missing the point. The premise is that if you had contact in your everyday life with people who are muslim, then you wouldn't need some sort of defining statement from them.

Fair enough, I guess it was a lack of coverage on Fox news et al that has been getting a lot of peoples backs up stateside.
That it was an attempt to kill an office full of people does merit some comparison.

Brighton factually.....
The two main suspects in the Islamist attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine in Paris are said to have robbed a service station in the north of France.

According to the manager of the service station that was robbed on the RN2 road in Aisne at about 10:30 (09:30 GMT), the attackers fit the description of the two men, and were heavily armed with Kalashnikovs and rocket-propelled grenade launchers. They are said to have driven off in the direction of Paris in a Renault Clio car, apparently the same vehicle hijacked in Paris soon after the Charlie Hebdo attack.

Could be heading back to Paris for a gande finale.
