To be fair, I'm sure Lancing College has produced far more odious right-wing toffs than lefties.

erm no not really. we have spent the last 13 years with posh well off lefty former student radicals governing. unfortunately people like him end up as cabinet ministers rather than union reps at the bus depot.

that said theres a rich seam of champagne socialists to mine in this country, its hardly a shock. you could say young mr gilmour is just carrying on a great british tradition of total spoilt smart alecy wankers.
I have no real problem with left leaning toffs, as long as they practice what they preach. Rather than considering Tony Benn a hypocrite purely for having money, I've always quite admired him, simply because he did pay the ridiculous tax on his earnings, as he believed he should.

I have less time for current incumbent of top lefty toff, Nick Clegg, who has ripped up his manifesto for a whiff of power.

As for Gilmour Jr, he simply needs a f***ing slap as he is clearly a juvenile fuckwitt who thinks he's playing big boys politics.

Err he was seen waving a red and black banner about like a madman. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the anarchist flag? I see the NSC Lefty Defence League are now out in force (LDL)
Did you actually read what he said? He said you'd need to provide more than TWO examples to conclude that Lancing "churns out" far left toffs. And he's not wrong, is he?

I think the issue here may be that anyone to the left of Norman Tebbit is far left in your eyes.

a ruling class is a ruling class indeed. i am not saying its inherently hypocritical, far from it. if you are assuming your rightful place bossing around proles its only degrees of difference what part of the spectrum you are on. although i am far happier to have my camerons and borises do it, rather than your harmans and cleggs, you know where you stand a bit more.

as for tax i would love to know where gilmour seniors wedge is. somewhere either with 80s detectives in classic cars running about the place, or inhabited by cats with no tails and fairies, no doubt.

No-one is defending him.

The only thing that's happening it that you're trying to brand him a 'leftie toff', which is of course total bollocks because, it seems, you find left-wing politics and his pathetic brand of schoolboy anarchism one and the same.

to be fair though looking at the leading lights of nu labour you could be forgiven for seeing where this kiddie is headed politically.

its like serial killers are often animal torturers as kids. its a little bit of a form guide.

Is it ? More likely to be like Liz Hurley being a punk. It is a pose to show rebellion. Chances are he will back huntin', fishin', shootin' before you can say Brian Aldridge.

Didn't Barrell of Fun go to Lancing College? I'm sure he'll tell us if it was wall to wall berets and che guevara t-shirts
I think Uncle Buck did. I, along with many others went to the 'other' school in Lancing.

As far as Lancing College turning out leftie intellectualls it certainly seems to have turned out a few wordsmiths: Evelyn Waugh, Tim Rice and Tom Sharpe for starters.

I got offered a place at Lancing College but point blank refused to go because they have school on Saturday, much to my parents' relief I think as the fees would have bankrupted them, back in 1994 they were 'only' about 2,500 - 3,000 a term I think.

I imagine his behaviour will now improve as his inheritance has probably flashed before his eyes.

No you're thinking of Brian Ferry's son Otis surely? I think Charlie will gravitate to the soft left, live in Islington, work in "the arts" and be seen at the latest indie band's post show parties.

What is it about Lancing College and the far left toffs it churns out? Here's another one wealthy Tom Driberg, who lived at a mansion in Maldon.

Driberg was born at Crowborough in Sussex, son of Amy Mary Bell of Dumfriesshire and John James Street Driberg who worked for the Indian Civil Service as Chief of Police and Inspector General of Jails for the Province of Assam. He was educated at Lancing College and joined the Communist Party when he was 15. He studied Classics at Christ Church, Oxford (1924–1927) without taking a degree.

During the General Strike in 1925 he worked at Communist Party headquarters and began writing for the Sunday Worker, a communist newspaper.

Not sure Mr Driberg was best known for his left wing views though, was he?

It always makes me laugh when these "student protesters" throw objects at the police, riot, etc, and then scream like babies when the Old Bill whack them in return. It's the same with militant Islamists over Guantanamo Bay - they wish to blow us up because of our decadent lifestyle and our hated democracy, yet if we start to play by their rules they squeal. By the way, I'm not in any way justifying Guantanamo; it disgusted me as much as the next man, and believe me, I am no liberal, and it took away all the sympathy that had built up round America over 9/11. It's the rank hypocrisy I can't stand.
