Making it over more than one day is going to put off a lot of people I would have thought.....would you want to spend the night in a hotel with a load of internet geeks?... not to mention cost of hotel etc. 0509hrs train from Brighton, arriving Gillingham at 0742 and bobs your uncle.

There's no way that we'd get back to Falmer in time for the start of the game if we left at 7.45. It going to take at least 8 hours, I think closer to 9.

For those interested in HELPING, can you please PM me.

I am starting to put this together, as I reckon it will take LOADS of planning. I will then PM a list of tasks I think need to be done, and ask for your input on anything else that needs doing.

Many Thanks

Brett

I was thinking about REMF, but I didnt want to tread on some peoples toes, by the money raised only be recognised under one persons name

I think REMF would be a great cause as it represents someone who will not see the Falmer project completed.

You would have to leave early if you wanted to make a 3pm kick off back in Brighton.

It would be more logistical to do the rides a day earlier and then perhaps a ride from the Goldstone to Falmer on the day of the game to collect money en route and have apub stop.

Most routes around are possible avoiding main roads, but if you had people of different speeds you would need good signage, also if people did not want to ride they could be useful supporting with food/drinks stops.

Kent is hilly from previous rides I have done there in the past and saps you. Its a great idea and I would be up for as it would get me back on the bike.

The task seems quite big, but we have 16 months til the proposed ride. It will be for one of the two ramp events, but I need to find out the dates of when they will be.

Interest seems quite high, but numbers will be limited to around 20 (policing and insurance thing)

Very good idea, lot of potential for raising money for good cause(s).

I might well be up for that, but my two-pennorth would be that it would be a shame to limit it to 20 if you've managed to inspire interest from far more than that, be a bit of a waste - and also I think to make it for the REMF (or something like the Rockinghorse) would be much better than 'for all those that have died waiting for Falmer'. It just sounds a bit OTT.

I agree it would be nice to have more than 20 people, but if it gets to certain numbers, I have to take out insirance for the event, get roads closed, get the whole thing policed etc. All the money would have to be fronted I guess, and I am certainly in no position to do that.

if its a small number of people, then it will just be viewed as a few mates going on a bike ride.

Most people seem to think REMF is a good enough cause, and I will speak to their committee to see what they think

In the time scale given, although quite long, I dont think it is long enough.

I have just had a PM asking me if im still doing this. Time has crept up so fast. I am willing to give it a go and organise, but it would have to be small scale, to avoid road closures etc.

There is barely anytime to organise it, but I am willing to have a crack, so if anyone wishes to help it would be great

A route is the main thing, one not too hilly, but maybe include the beacon?

Thinking meet at Goldstone, get driven up to the Priestfield, then cycle to Withdean, then to The AMEX, but not on the day of a game.

Maybe the Friday before the "big friendly" at the end of July (29th) or Friday 5th August (depending on Brightons game not being moved to then)

Would be well up for that, can't make the 29th though as out of the country (some people are also in Holland watching the CRICKERT, are they not?).

Not sure how much sponsorship I'd be able to get though, not after pestering people for months over the marathon, so might just have to do it for the sheer FUN. It's not often people say that about Gillingham is it?

Great idea - I'd be interested although would need to do some training!!! How about some of the charity money raised going to the family of the private who was killed in Afganistan they were at the Daggers Home game?

Friday 5th August maybe the best date (unless Brighton are playing)

I dont mind where the money goes, just hope we raise a bit between us. Even if we are just doing it for "fun" i am still up for giving it a go

EK - maybe we will have to drive to gillingham and map out a route back in the coming weeks?

Might have to combine it with something else for the day as I don't think I can be arsed with a trip just to see Gillingham, but yes, in theory I'm up for that.

62 miles according to the AA, if you avoid motorways.

I'd be really up for this if a place was available or you were short of people.

Bear me in mind!

On the excellent place name theme, I've just found one we DEFINITELY missed on trips to Wiltshire in recent years.

Wilsford Cum Lake.

The mind BOGGLES:ohmy:

Suggestion, it might be worth contacting the Huddersfield cyclists, I know it was a whole different level and needed escorts and support cars etc but they may have some advise.
