I didn't know that a similar tragedy was averted at Hillsborough in 1981 when Spurs played Wolves in the FA Cup Semi Final - then I found this video on YouTube. It's shocking that lessons were not learned after this:

I watched the one that was on the History Channel yesterday and I bawled my eyes out, was so shocking and sad and I remember seeing it on the tv when it happened, I was 15.

What fills me with anger since the revelations last week is that 41 lives could have been saved and hearing the mother talking about her son coming round from being crushed, saying "Mum" on the pitch before dying was harrowing to watch.

I have family from Liverpool and talking about Hillsborough has never been easy at all.

Not much new in that programme but shocking nonetheless. The sheer volume of the crowd outside the gates 7 mins before kick-off was frightening.

Agreed..that was the worse part of the whole tragic incident.

Even some of the relatives said they'd understand what happened more if their loved ones had died straight away but clearly most didn't.

I guess you've had the debate about how the problems all started!

I finished reading it yesterday - took several sittings as it's quite heavy going at times... but yes a tragedy in so many ways
