Snags are surmountable but doesn't sound good.

According to today's Argus:

" Further strengthening on and off the pitch is still a priority for Slade, although hopes of supplementing the squad with a Championship midfielder and a winger from a Premier League club have hit snags. There is also competition for a potential addition to the coaching staff. "

I imagine we will get a left-back in on loan or short-term deal and that will probably be it before the start of the season

Snags could be anything.....wages/selling team not releasing until replacement found....etc etcthis can happen and then next day all cleared up..

Good thing is RS understands the importance of getting these types of players so I would imagine he will have others on the shopping list if necessary....

Not sure on the need for a championship midfielder. I guess he would have to start if he is dropping down to League One. That would mean that one of Crofts, Thornhill or Dicker misses out. But at least it means Virgo or El Abd have less chance of playing there.

As for Premiership winger, I think I remember reading it was going to be a loan deal, but then the oppurtunity came for a permanent deal to us, so maybe they are negotiating terms and a fee?

It was only the other week the argus was quoting Slade as saying we might not make any more signings before the start of the season and since then Dickinson & Thornhill have both arrived so i'm not going to read too much into what the argus are saying today, Slade knows who he wants and as he's allready proved he's got the patience and ability to get them in the end.

Spot on. I think Slade has done very well in this transfer window, professionalism we haven't seen for quite a while here.

When Yems left Exeter I was expecting him to be appointed by us the next day. I still feel he is the target for improving the off-field team but wonder if we are in competition with Southampton as Pardew looks to build a team?

I think O'Toole may well be the midfield target - he was supposed to be going to Sheffield Utd weeks ago but for whatever reason it hasn't happened yet. However they now have money from Spurs burning a hole in their pocket and will want to spend some plus I would imagine he would be reluctant to drop a league.

Perhaps now they've got a bit more to spend, they're setting their sights a little higher than O'Toole?
