Can we start singing ‘champions of England’? I’m sure we won the community shield back in the day.

And so we should. In 1910 Albion were crowned the 'Champions of all England'. An official title. A fitting response as West Ham have never claimed such a title.

As for Champions of Europe, they are not. It was a jolly in a third tier tournament. A third tier tournament that we would also be happy to go on a jolly in, and may yet find ourselves doing.

Winning the 3rd tier of European competitions does not make you anymore the champions of Europe than winning the 3rd tier of English competitions makes you the champions of England.

However, on reflection, I think they realise that they only won the noddy European competition and are being ironic and having a bit of a laugh.
