Brighton & Hove Albion 3 Crystal Palace 3 (Palace equalise in the 6th minute of injury time)

Crystal Palace win 10-9 on penalties.

If you were offered this scenario now, would you take it?

Are you some kind of complete f***ing clown? The question you're really asking is 'would you take Brighton finishing in the top 4 of the premier league in 3 seasons' for us to even qualify for it? I would take that in 25 years, irrespective of what happens in the final. I'd accept being beaten by a super scum team compiled of Palace, Millwall, Leeds and Leyton Orient in the final 10-0 if offered the chance. Followed by them painting the town a whole rainbow colours

I can see Brighton beating someone in the Champions League final in a few years, but it won't be Palace, as they'd be playing in the Surrey County League after some financial irregularities are found in their books and they're relegated 10 divisions :)

On the one hand, that would mean we were a) two divisions higher than now, and b) had finished in the top four, ie won more than lost against the big boys, and had therefore at least one unforgettable season. plus c) who you've beaten to get to the Champions League final, some big scalps and great trips.

But then again, I'm not sure the dictionary definition of 'disappointment' covers what losing to Palace on pens in those circumstances would feel like. You'd never be that low ever again at a football match - think how much the 5-0 still hurts, and times by 100s - and possibly never recover your mental equilibrium.

On balance I think that result could drive me to the nuthouse, so no.

plus the fact none of us would get tickets for the final as 1000s would flock from surrey and london to see us in the big occasion

yeah I'd take that and then we can use our superity (is that a word?) to beat Real Madrid in the same competition the following year to help make amends

Don't forget though, we're playing as REIGNING champions of Europe, having won the thing the previous season. Not so bad.

Perhaps if we got our revenge by beating them in the next three finals?
