Was that the one with Mark Smith, the Bristol Rovers defender who went on to become the best player in the world?...

He now plays for some team below the conference...

:D

I was thinking of firing up CM 99/00 for a laugh, one I can't be bothered with buying the latest one, remember that game being really good and all I have heard is criticism of the latest editions of being too difficult.

the football manager is too involved...that was the beuty of champ..its all about the signings and tactics...thats all you need...the footie manager is living and breathing every little thing and just is too much for my liking

My Fortuna Dusseldorf youth academy developed the knack of churning out a new greatest centre forward ever every 2-3 years in 01/02. The first one was called Matthias Bartsch and he was a legend. 2 Euopean Cups with him and then a new one popped up so sold him for loads and carried on as before. Dusseldorf were the dominant force in Europe for 10 years until I got bored.

I have to say that FM07 may actually be as good as 01/02. I am not sure yet but it's the first version for years I go to work in the morning still trying to sort out my team.

Piss poor by all accounts but then I am a Sports Interactive loyalist so I would say that.

Agree this was the best Champ Man hame ever. Much better tahn later editions which took about a year to play. Too involved.

Mokouko was brilliant.
Justin Georcelin at northampton was as good as Samba, if not better I found.
Tommi Gronlund, a finnish defensive midfield hard man, superb.
Paul Brooker was very good - in the hole just behind the front 2
.

I think that was the version where I uncovered To Maderia from the lower leagues in Portugal. Turns out he was a made up player, but I didn't discover this until much later.

I always used to start with Wigan as they were in the lower leagues but had plenty of cash.

I cannot get 99/00 to run on my new PC. It installs but some daft dialogue box pops up and says 'Exe' or something and it won't go.

I agree the current games take too long to play. I like the older Champ Man format.

Mokouko behind the front 2 was amazing, lost count of the number of goals he scored and set up.

Bojan Djordic always did well for me as did Isaac Nkubi from Villa up to a certain level.

Always went for the Swedes who had good stats and were cheap but is always a favourite of mine and Johnnier Montano wasn't bad either.

Tonton Zola Mokouko legend. On that version you could play 31412 and tear holes in defenders. I remember i had robbie keane playing in the hole on that version and he got 50 in a season.

My favourite player was Bakirciouglu from Hammarby. He actually made it into the sweden team in the real world as well.

I used to sign him, ibrahimovic from malmo, mokouko, cherno samba etc. Happy days.

i am sad enough to say i have had every version since Championship manager '93 on my Amiga 600. Dwight Yorke was a 18 year old left winger on that game and Beardsley still played!

I often think if i had put the time i have spent on champ man (football manager) i really could have achieved greater things in life.

Getting FM 07 tomorrow as a present from my girlfriend for completing my MA dissertation!!! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:
