Quick question, how many of you can name 25 goal a season strikers in championship or above. And how much would they cost. I think a pattern could appear.

Speculate to accumulate. Of course there are no guarantees, but if we want the riches of the Premiership and Gus has identified that he needs more cash to achieve this then apart from being happy to tread water, the board will have to find a way to finance this demand. If they are happy for a mid table finish then we don't need that striker this season.

It's not about finding a striker who will score 25 goals a season as they are very hard to come by and very expensive, Its about finding the right striker who's worth 25 goals a season to the team through scoring, assisting and creating space for other players to take advantage of.

We could use the slush fund we've accrued from our transfers out...oh hang on.

We could use the extra revenue generated by more season ticket sales...once other 120 million debts are under control.

We could use the extra money generated by price increases, less 10%...Oh people aren't happy with paying for stuff.

Magic beans, the answer to all our current woes.

Was just trying to demonstrate how expensive strikers are. Jay Rodriguez cost stains 7million. He seems like the kind of level people are expecting.

Why not just take a look at Gus' statement to the press? It is not just the fans who are frustrated.

From the Argus:-

GUS Poyet fears he is running out of time to land a striker to turn Albion into Championship promotion contenders.

The Seagulls have gone three games without a goal this season following last night’s 0-0 draw against Cardiff at The Amex.

The transfer window shuts at 11pm a week on Friday and Poyet is no closer to ending his long search for a target man.

He said: “I need a striker. I’ve been asking for the person that is going to put the ball in the net when you have got the chance, for the presence in the box.

“We are not close enough to getting one. We are going to try to make sure we keep performing but the quality, the expensive part, the one that is going to make a difference, is missing and it’s taking too long.

“It’s frustrating. I feel for the players as well, the effort they are putting in, the commitment, the way they are playing and then we are missing that part.

“Macca (Craig Mackail-Smith) is the best he has been for three or four months. We are seeing the best of Nooney (Craig Noone) and we are still not scoring. We need to be positive but at the same time careful, because if it takes too long maybe it’s too late.”

Poyet dismissed reports that Albion have agreed a fee with West Ham for veteran French centre forward Frederic Piquionne.

“We cannot compete,” he said. “I keep seeing clubs buying strikers and bringing players from the Premiership and paying fortunes. We are at another level, that is clear. We will try to do our best but quality is expensive.”

Poyet has ruled out a top six finish unless Albion are successful in their quest to sign a striker, either permanently or on loan.

“We’ve been trying,” he added. “The loans we want to bring are Premiership loans. They are too expensive. I’ve got a maxuimum in there that is difficult. I have been in touch with many clubs but I accept the situation and the budget we’ve got. I’m not crying about it, I’m saying the truth.”

Norwich went up without a premiership striker in their squad, so did Swansea. It's not vital, we shall have to start getting more from our midfielders and use our fullbacks to cross the ball

I do fear that we are on course for a bottom 6 finish without a new striker and attacking midfielder owing to our poor strike rate. Vicente is unlikely to start in many games I believe (and will no doubt pick up further injuries as the season progresses) and Dicker should not be in the starting 11. We really need to address the striker issue soon if we are to mount a challenge for promotion or the play-offs this season but I'm sure Gus will be already well aware of this.

One has to question whether Bloom has the funds or is wiiling to spend, AT THIS TIME, to take the club to the next stage. We all might have to accept that the premiership is still 3 or 4 years away. The club obviously have a plan and are going to stick with it. Will Hoskins is only a matter of weeks away from being fit and I do not believe that Poyet has told him, as reported, that he has no future at this club. I base this belief on what he said about Hoskins during the pre season and that Harley was included last night after it was reported that he had been told that he had no future here either. Will Buckley, who I honestly believe to be more important to the team than Vicente, should be fit for Saturday.

Rhetorical question from someone obviously content with the continued lack of fire power, with the emphasis on "25".

Club ANNUAL income up from £4m to c. £25m at the Amex. The club can afford the striker, and the best part of 20 goals would suffice.

The press (Times today for example), Gus, and most fans know it: If a striker is not bought in this window, Brighton will not feature in the May 2013 promotions places, and there will be many blanks in games this season putting some fans off when we are trying to build.

Bottom 6?! I think this might just be the biggest knee-jerk reaction to a couple of goalless games I've seen in a long time. We've enough quality to finish mid-table regardless of whether we sign a striker or not, and if we do get one in then we'll comfortably push for play-offs.
