White isn’t a CM. Lallana doesn’t have the legs to play in a 2, nor Gross. Propper or Alzate are the only viable options for me (not seen enough of Molumby yet)

Alzate for me Propper is too slow to deal with their midfield

As one who thought Bassouma would become a very good attacking midfielder.I think he has been brilliant in new role. Very disciplined and makes dozens of tackles every game. Great upgrade on Stevens in same role

I’ve been pushing Alzate all along but have to say, I really like Gross in the deeper role now. He’s grown into it and I think his game suits that position in our system, he’s far more effective there than starting further forward.

Bissouma and Gross as the midfield 2 for me from now on with White staying in defence.

Though of course set the winning goal up yesterday, and was second in chances created per minute......

But to be fair, it’s a difficult one, as you wouldn’t leave Lallana out for Gross.

Gross has such a good range of passing he can play a deeper role as well.

Not sure what Alzate has done wrong, but doesn’t seem in favour currently.

Lalana first on team sheet. It is first time for years we have had a midfielder that consistently supports strikers

He's getting better and better every game, isn't he? We just need to manage his fitness. Such a classy player.

Started thinking about answering the OPs questions, then realised at no point was I considering who was less of a liability/ least shithouse.
Just basking in a warm glow now.

Bissouma and Alzate/Gross for me. Alzate started the season off really well but Gross has come in and done brilliantly in the deeper role. For the Liverpool game, I’d like to see Alzate at right back with his energy.

Personally, I prefer White as a CB as that challenge he made on Watkins was top class.

Gross has done a really decent job in there. If I was wearing one I'd take my hat off to him (and Potter). I wasn't really a fan of his previous efforts in a deeper midfield role but in this system he's looked good.

In terms of formation I prefer three in the middle. When we play two we seem very susceptible to the counter which is, presumably, why White found himself in midfield. Now we have Welbeck who offers more hold up options and with both Maupay and Connolly playing better in a two I think we have the personnel to play three in the middle.

Doesn't make selection any easier though. Bissouma, Gross, Lallana as the three worked well against Villa. But then...Alzate? He was really good at the start of the season. Trossard? He's been decent this year. Propper? Seems a long way back now. Molumby? Ally Mac?

I guess the options for a three man midfield are Lallana, Trossard, Ally Mac and Gross as the more advanced of the three and Bissouma, Alzate, Gross, Propper, Lallana and Molumby as the deeper two.

I've not really answered the question have I?

So, in conclusion....:shrug::thumbsup:
I think if fit Bissouma and Lallana are as certain to start as anyone in a Potter team so that only leaves one space for half a dozen very good players. It's not a bad position to be in.

Is there any consensus on how good this Moder guy is?

I sort of agree with whoever was saying, we might be better off keeping him at Poznan for the season and integrating him next season.

I think Alzate is easily the best overall player alongside Biss, but....

Gross does create more chances, so despite his weaknesses, sometimes Potter prefers him.

And White is a better defender who protects us on the break and allows the wingbacks to bomb on so sometimes he gets the spot.
