or, the government or statisticians should consider all non-official reponces as a "no religion" answer, rather than assume we have religious belief by default.

It's in your interests to make sure the powers-that-be understand the make-up of the nation so that money can be directed to where it is needed, regarding hospitals etc. To my mind it's pretty stupid not filling it in properly or not at all - or at least if you don't then you have no basis for complaining later, and of course it is a legal requirement. Voting "jedi" was quite funny last time, but just juvenile now, especially with money so short.
