But where do you think that he fits into the system we play? At the point of a front three? On the wing? Or does the formation we play need to be adapted to fit him in?

I believe that we play the correct formation and it works if we play two genuine wingers. The Palace at home game last season being a perfect case in point. He certainly isn't a genuine winger. I also don't think he is a good enough player to occupy defences at the point of an attacking three. And I certainly don't think that he is an important enough player to bother changing the formation to accommodate him. What he does bring to the team is a bit of steel, he will run around a lot and put himself about. That I do appreciate about him and certainly at some points it is needed, but I don't think, overall, it is beneficial to have an attacker in the team as wasteful in front of goal as he is.

Spot on. In short, he is not our best player in any position.

Barnes is class. Haters, deal with it.

I'd be gutted to lose him. He's a natural striker and his movement is spot on. He is also only 23. His best years are ahead of him and I hope he's wearing Brighton colours when he's 26/27/28 because I think he could tear the Championship a new one.

I hope you're correct, but I very much doubt it. Have you seen him play recently?

Not good enough for celtic

Eh ? If Celtic played in the English leagues they would struggle at the bottom end of The Championship and eventually find their level in League 1.

I like Barnes as a player and he does seem to have a knack of being in the right place at the right time. However, I do not like his petulance, cheating, diving to try and win a free kick rather than play and his moaning. He HAS matured a little since his ban last season but I can see why he rubs some fans up the wrong way.

Would I want us to sell him? NO
About sums it up for me...

90%!? A bit arrogant IMHO.

I think arrogant sums up most of them, apparently if you don't agree with them, you don't understand football.

Really dont want to see Barnes sold, though if they make a good offer then I couldnt blame him if he went. A chance to win trophies (well, easy ones), play for the top club in the country and also play in Europe.

Selling would be a big mistake though as he would score for fun up there.

Exactly my thoughts.

There are a few posters on this site who consistently use the 'if you don't agree with me then you don't understand football' line as a persuasive device. Some are more subtle in their use of it than others, of course, but you can always tell what they are suggesting. It is a weak argument.

Barnes has always scored goals for us. We'd miss him if he went.

Any player of ours or any team is for sale at the right price. If Celtic want to pay top dollar for Ash good luck to em!

Celtic's hopes of signing Pukki look like they are fading, while Arnautovic has apparently turned down the opportunity to join them after they agreed a 3.4m fee for him. Apparently they are desperate for a striker ahead of Tuesday night.

If the reporter is right, it seems likely they would put a solid inquiry in today/tomorrow for Barnes.

That report makes no mention of Barnes

What straws am I clutching? I just said I would like to know how many he scores when played as a striker. Not really sure what your point is.

Seeing as Celtic need a striker, i imagine he would play in that position.

The only straws you're clutching at are the ones for changing the minds of those who have been banging the anti-Barnes drum irrespective of performance since he signed.

Give up mate. If their opinions haven't changed by now, they never will.

Something tells me there is truth in these rumours, and Barnes is off.

Good player, who is only going to improve, but I think his loyalty lies with Gus, rather than the club - and who can blame him for wanting out after all the shit he has to put up from BRIGHTON fans over the last few seasons.

If his loyalty lies with Gus rather than the club..then there is no place for him at BHA. His loyalty should be with his employer and no-one else.

He would probably do ok there. That league is nowhere near the standard of the championship, as many players who have come from that league have proved.

Surely Celtic wouldn't fall for being ripped off by us again?

Depends what ripped off is. But if the Sky reporter is right, then Barnes will be down the list from the likes of Pukki & Arnautovic (really quality players). However, if they can't get these players and are desperate for a player for the Champion's league qualifier on Tuesday, then whichever club they approach for a player is in a really strong position to negotiate a good fee.

If Barnes' contract is out next summer, then we'd be mad not to take a good offer now IMO - or at least get him to sign a new contract ala Greer.
