Celtic after Barnes

I don't understand how someone who turns up to watch football (therefore, you would assume, understands it) can not only not think that he is a very good player, but actually have the opinion that he is a BAD one.

If people on here stated "I think he is OK" then fine. That's below the standard I would put him in but that's not a ridiculous view.

To have the opinion that he is BAD suggests to me that the person stating this has little grasp of football and skillset which Barnes has. I imagine they also though Poyet's football was 'boring'.

I like Barnes but thought Poyet's football was boring, so there.

Celtic's last recruit called Barnes didn't work out too well for them, did he?

Barnes is a decent player but too profligate to play at the highest level. Were he to sign for Celtic, he should fill his boots in the SPL though. I mean, even Anthony Stokes scores regularly in the SPL.

Couldn't blame him for a second - he'll go on to be a very, very good player, with or without us. He's got phenomenal determination to make it.
I nearly fell off my chair after reading this,.... is there a psychiatrist in the house, theres a bloke here who needs to have some therapy...... taxi for Mellotron.

I think you're relatively small minded to assume I have no grasp of football based upon one personal point of view.

I don't rate Barnes, primarily because I don't believe he offers much to the style of football we play, secondly because his goal scoring record is hardly prolific and thirdly I believe its incorrect to base someones ability on determination.

As for Poyet, his footballing philosophy was spot on, shame his line ups at times were not reflecting of the tactics he tried to impose.

Seems everyone rates this young striker apart from a few Albion fans who simply won't see him as anything other than a clogger.

He's not exactly a lethal finisher though. Decent all round game, hardly going to set the world alight

I think he's good, just inconsistent. He does the key thing, which is be in the right place at the right time to score goals, and I can see him developing a great partnership with Ulloa. However, it is a bit of a gamble - if he hits a real purple patch he could end up being the top scorer in the Championship, but it's a big if. I actually think a move to Celtic would be a good career move for him right now - although he can afford to miss sitters like the one vs Newport even less if he heads up there. If the fee was right (2-3m) then I'd let him go.

I can't help thinking Barnes will flourish elsewhere, all very odd.

I know it's not possible as it's subjective and not quantatative , but I would love to see his scoring stats for when he actually plays as a striker and not a midfielder. I imagine it's VERY good.

Straws and clutching...... how about the stats of how many times he has actually missed the target from inside the opposition box?

But would you say he is a bad footballer? That's when I have issue.

If someone isnt his biggest fan then fine, but I just can't understand how anyone could watch him play, considering his age, and that he is asked to play out of position quite often, and claim he is bad. There's a big difference.

One thing's for sure, we should not let him go unless we have a better player lined up as a replacement - if we cannot replace him with better, particularly at this time with our dearth of strikers, we can't let him leave.

What straws am I clutching? I just said I would like to know how many he scores when played as a striker. Not really sure what your point is.

Seeing as Celtic need a striker, i imagine he would play in that position.

Would you say he is technically good though? Just that part of his game, not his positioning/aggression/hold-up play etc, but his technical ability?
