Saw this on another thread and thought it deserved its own.
Given we are playing Chelsea today (BOOOOO!) was one of the first things they nicked off us the celery song? Or did we pinch it off them?
IIRC at the time the infamous Krispies (so named because he looked like a kid in the Rice Krispies ad, which he doesn't any more) would be encouraged by the North Stand to start a song or do the Goldstone Rap. After doing so there would be a chant of "Rice, Rice, Rice Krispies". At some point in one season this was then countered by the pelting of the Krispies gang with celery and the chant "Celery, celery, if she don't come I'll tickle her bum with a stick of celery". Then this tradition slowly took over home and away.
This was, of course, in the days before people in mustard coloured sweaters issued various food and drink based edicts.
(No @Swansman this is an actual recollection and the drugs probably have worn off for now).
But Chelsea did the celery thing too. So who was first?
