Celebrities you've met: Best and Worst?

Best: Barry Cryer, absolutely charming bloke with an endless supply of jokes. Surprisingly, Jonathan Ross is a really nice bloke too (well, it surprised me). In truth, most celebs I've met have been perfectly pleasant.

Worst: Jim Bowen, racist wanker; Ruby Wax, right up herself; Henry Blofeld, lecherous sod and, as previously mentioned, John McCririck, total arse.

The good:
Terry Butcher. He served us in his Scottish hotel. A lovely guy, softspoken, a far cry from the England warrior on the pitch.
Peter Grummitt. When with the Albion. Had time for fans.
Ron Greenwood. Nice bloke.

The bad: Fanshawe ... is legendary in Sussex 'business forum' type meetings for all the wrong reasons. Somehow, the self publicist with no business acumen & adopted Brightonian, plays a big prima donna, waltzing into meetings last for effect, whispering to his mates during meetings, dismissing other viewpoints, & generally being a tw*t.

Blofeld - that's revealing. BBC hype up the entire Test Match Special mob as gods.

I'd have said it about anyone !! You cant talk about how much you'd like to give someone a slap and then not do it when they've been in front of you several times :lolol:

Fair play... you must be in a good mood today mate as your reply didn't annoy me :lolol:

Unfortunatley can't just go hitting people in the street no matter how much you hate em...

Best..David Gower, what a jolly nice chap, also Charlie Harper allways has time for a chat if you dont mind him eyeing up your wife!! also had many a good chat with Brightons own Attila even though he knows who I support.

Worst, Paul weller, mainly for personal reasons, and Terry Fenwick (ex QPR and Palace) what a total cock when I met him.

But I have to say sir Steve Coppell was a great man to talk to both at Palace and Brighton and believe it or not, if you had a hour to spend Simon Jordon would talk to you all that time...mind you you would not get a word in even if you tried!!

I can second the positive nominations of Johnny Marr and Michael Johnson. Both seemed very nice, although only 'met' Marr very briefly. Met Johnson loads of times through work, and despite being EASILY the biggest star in the group of people involved (Johnson, plus Steve Cram, Brendan Foster, Alison Curbishley - the BBC Athletics commentary team), he was also EASILY the nicest of them, in reagrds to his dealings with the 'little people*' of the crew.

*runners, assistants and the like, rather than midgets. There were no midgets.

Also, the name Johns(t)on reminds me, that as a LAD, I had the pleasure and privelage of meeting Brian Johnston, at the County Ground.

It was during the tea interval, and he was with a freind, near the Gilligan Stand, just about to tuck into his picnic, when myself and a mate spotted him and went over for an autograph. I had this big book of cricket drawings, and there was one of him, so I wanted to take the opportunity to get him to sign it. The caricature wasn't especially flattering, so I felt a bit cheeky asking.

He was pretty old at that time, and signing the autograph legibly was an effort - to the extent that it made me feel guilty for having asked. But far from being annoyed at being bothered, he asked us what we'd thought of the day's play, and offered us a slice of his cake. What an utter GENT he was.

When Mrs T and I happened to meet David Cameron on Swanage Peir... he stopped for several minutes for a chat and a photo, and came over as a bloody nice bloke.

Sadly, Natasha Kaplinski, who looked painfully thin up close, when I met her back stage at the Royal Albert Hall, wasn't so accommodating.

Princess Diana was nice to talk to but you didn't want to stay on her wrong side for long.

His son Barry used to work for radio Sussex. and Brian, not only a GENT but a WAR HERO - he won the Military Cross

Believe it or not, the 3 or 4 times I met (ex) princess Fergie, she was extremly pleasant to me.

Couldn't agree more. I'm no Royalist, but having met her in a work situation, she was so down to Earth, she was almost in the gutter! Even asked if there was somewhere she could for a quick smoke!

In the other extreme, on another occasion, her Ex was the biggest stuck up pretentious arsehole you're likely to meet.

Agree about McCririck - he's an obnoxious bastard. He was at Fontwell the other year to help launch their book and was signing copies of the Fontwell book. After the singing session he was walking around the paddock and a small girl, probably only about 8 years old, very politely asked him to sign her racecard and he refused saying he would only give her an autograph if she bought the book.

I've also seen him around Plumpton working for ATR and he won't talk to any of the punters. The Channel4 racing team must do a great make up job on him for the morning line as he looks very ill.
Met him at both Brighton and Bath racecourse.....he was very friendly, I tipped him a winner

How funny, I have a friend who used to work at their residence in Berkshire (?) (Andrew and Fergie still live together, weirdly) and he said pretty much exactly the same.

He has a few decent stories to tell about them :lolol:

Inevitably John Peel was very down to earth. For some bizarre reason we had a conversation about cheese... Met George Best once too, who seemed quite shy.
