if you put a cctv camera up they aint gonna stop at your car your house might become a target, unfortunately cctv is no deterrent to people like this these days, they seem to have it in for you, why are they targeting you

Unfortunately this is probably true, these people aren't the smartest. I put in cameras after I caught someone trying to break in, but they came back, in and out in 13 seconds..... Doing 10 years now though, twats.....

When you could be Breaking the Law for Having CCTV at Home:

While home installation of CCTV does not fall under the jurisdiction of the Data Protection Act, if the home installation has not been carried out correctly or is being used for a purpose other than for which it was designed, then you may have a case for taking further action under totally different laws.
For example, if you have a camera which is pointed directly at another person’s property or it’s suspected that it can capture part or all of a neighbour’s property, they might have a case to take action against you under legislation covered by the Human Rights Act. They might have sufficient grounds to say that they have had their privacy violated, that your CCTV system is tantamount to harassment and even voyeurism.

In such cases, they can get the police involved if you're not able to come to some agreement with regards to what the camera(s) can capture and to make modifications to the installation, if necessary. When it comes shared facilities with neighbours, there are usually two key issues: who will foot the bill for repairs which affect more than one property; and who is responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of shared amenities, such as apartment blocks or flats.

The main laws governing the installation and use of CCTV is covered by the Data Protection Act 1998, but this only applies to businesses and organisations and NOT to domestic property. It’s crucial that people recognise that distinction. If you’re concerned about a company’s use of CCTV, that’s a matter for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to deal with under the statutes that have been laid out under the Data Protection Act.

Hope this helps and you catch the twat.

You don't have parking issues with your neighbours do you?

The fact that they recognised that you'd changed your car suggests the culprit is probably closer than you think.

Is there perhaps any merit in putting a camera inside the car? You would possibly increase the chances of capturing a picture of the culprit's face at slightly closer quarters.

I like the idea of somehow getting motion sensors to trigger a squirt of "smart water" at people - there's got to be a way of catching someone with that stuff.

It's one of those options or getting your car to talk in a polite but slightly effeminate voice.....

I have strong suspicions as to who it is, and yes they are close by, but I have no proof. Without going into detail its not someone I can shake nicely by the throat as I will be banged up straight away, sandwich short of a picnic and all that. Him not me!

That said it could be someone else, i really don't know which is why I need to catch them at it. I have sat up several nights, and typically nothing happens. I would rather catch them then simply put up CCTV as a deterrent, as I want closure on this and if it simply stops I will never know. To my knowledge i have had no problems with anyone in the vicinity, but some of these scratches have been really deep and vicious, so there is no question that someone has a problem with me.

I just wish they would "man up" and have a go at me personally rather than my car. However cowards don't do that, and in the meantime I find it really stressful and frustrating, and can fully understand why some people faced with similar circumstances really flip when they catch someone at it.
