Mods - can someone merge this with the last batting collapse and innings defeat to save us the trouble of re-posting..?

I am trying to be mindful that this season SCCC are rebuilding the squad with some very promising local talent, after the retirement of some key players. It is good to see the youngsters get a chance but of course this takes time, so need to be patient.

Plus we do not have our strongest XI available at the moment. Even if Prior, Wright & Yardy (best wishes) were fit, we cannot count on their availability if England decide otherwise. Wouldn't be surprised if Monty gets a call up too.

This places a lot more pressure onto our more experienced batsmen (eg Joyce & Goodwin). We have heavily relied upon Murray G. (what a servant he has been) for many years and looks like he will be pivotal again - in what I believe may be his last season. I really hope that SCCC already have their eyes open for a successor of similar calibre.

Similarly the bowling attack does not appear to be as well balanced as in recent years but has good potential. Hopefully the overseas players will play to their best. It would be a real pity not to build on the good work and momentum from last season.

Maybe get Gus to give SCCC a motivational team talk before the first home game? Get a couple of wins under their belt and who knows what might follow?

I'm sure how effective tippy tappy cricket would be

Tough start playing Lancs and Durham up there.

The only upside to getting a pasting in the County Championship is it might focus the mind on the one-day competitions, in which we stand a better chance of success.
