A good biological detergent diluted in water, and use a magnetic cat flap, and unless your rogue tom has a magnet in his hip pocket he won't get in, and if you don't want the expense of buying a new cat flap buy a water pistol and catch the little sod as he comes through the flap,he won't come back after a dose of water and you shouting at him.

might I again remind those who think they can abuse or injure a tom cat because its doing what comes naturally it is against the law to do so,with the new law animals are now better protected than we are.

We had a new catflap fitted a couple of months ago - www.petporte.com, works a treat - and the nasty Tom's not been in the house, since. But our four still keep weeing.

Fatboy, it's our first wedding anniversary that weekend, so we're gonna be away fella. Sozz. How long you in Blighty for?

The most curious thing..
This from bitter experience...
Mop as much up as possible with kitchen towels. Wash the area with a biological washing liquid or powder. Dry it, then wash it again with diluted surgical spirit. Then use a strong scented disinfectant (zoflora is good). Do NOT use bleach. Do NOT rub their noses in it - that only encourages them.
This gets rid of the chemicals (mainly ammonia based) and proteins in the urine that cause the smell and damages walls, floors and paintwork. Cat urine is very concentrated and will rot almost everything if not removed.
Also if you don't get rid of the smell the cat will continue to reinforce its scent in the same area, or the other cats wil try and cover the original scent with theirs. If you can cover the area with something like a vynl floor covering it will also protect your carpets, and you can clean it more easily (although possibly a little unsightly).
You may eventually find you have to replace that part of the carpet if it gets into the underlay.

Tazer. Electricity applied to cat wee at the point of origin discourages the fuckers from weeing. Ever again.

Top advice, thankyou CC

We may pull the carpets up, cos it's not funny anymore. Will try all those things first, though :)

In the end we ditched the carpet and put down laminate as it is easier to clean (the water-proof stuff is better but still not foolproof). We would have preferred real wood or parquet but too expensive. Then we covered the affected area with some similar looking vynl as extra protection.

If you really want to keep carpet, you will need a proper carpet cleaner but its never the same.

Our problem only stopped when the cat involved died  as she was getting old and had been ill for some time. :(:(:(

the crux of your problem is them peeing after you have taken cheshire cats good advice start them all on a coarse of rescue remedy (its a Bach flower remedy for de-stressing) I have used it on stray and awkward cats for years and it sounds like they are o have been stressed by the tom.
4 drops in their water or food day and night or even better dab on the tips of their ears, rescue remedy can be obtained at a Boots store or health shop and is totally harmless.
give it a go!
