Has anyone on NSC ever seen hin in Concert? He is playing at the o2 Shepherds Bush Empire on Thursday 28th May, as part of Island records 50th Anniversary.

I saw him on the documentary about Salman Rushdie and the fatwa where he said in a televised debate that he wholeheartedly supported that the author should be killed. I have absolutely no time for him now.

Foreigner Suite is my favourite Cat Stevens track and he seems to have sampled some of that in his recent single, I bet he'd be excellent live.

Bit silly of him but since then... if you saw trhe doc on him two years ago, he has retracted.

The reason he was considered a security risk had nothing to do with those comments and he's been back and forth to the states many times since.

With all that's gone on in the last few years I hardly think his views would have moderated. I suspect he still holds those views but retracted them just to help his own career,

That doesn't make any sense. He is phenominally rich and extremely influential. By going back to music he lost a lot of influence in the Muslim world because there are still quite a lot of muslims who think music is a sin. As he said in the documentary, he accepts that he had been influenced by the wrong people... the same people who stopped him from singing and influenced him on the Rushdie issue.

he comes across as a very naive man at times but the charity work he has done over the last twenty years is phenominal. A good man but sometimes misguided.

I should add that the US governement issued an unreserved aopology to him after being refused entry.

Perhaps his cover version of 'Don't let me be misunderstood,' on his 'An other cup' album sums things up perfectly. A live Cat Stevens concert is about as common as an Albion striker's hat trick.

Saw him last night. He and his band were truely sublime. Most of his songs are timeless and many have seldom been bettered. He came across as a lovely bloke and was humbled by the exstatic reception that he received. You might have heard of one of the support bands. U2 ?!!
