I’m looking for advice on a getting a new car.
I’ve had my current car for the last 10 years. I’ve done a lot of miles in it and it probably won’t pass another MOT. It’s also not worth anything other than scrappage. I own it out right and don’t particularly want to fork out a lot for finance.
I do rely on the car to get to work, as it’s somewhere not otherwise connected to transport and it’s a 50 mile round trip per day.
Don’t want anything flashy or big. (On street parking).
New or used?
How important is low mileage?
Any makes/models that are known for being unreliable?
Is it time to go electric/hybrid etc? (Do occasionally drive in ULEZ and current car is compliant.

Unless you are going to ULEZ areas a lot, I'm not sure I'd worry too much about that, just pay the £12 (or whatever it is) each time, be far cheaper than spending extra on ULEZ compliant car.

Unless you are going to ULEZ areas a lot, I'm not sure I'd worry too much about that, just pay the £12 (or whatever it is) each time, be far cheaper than spending extra on ULEZ compliant car.

Surely all new domestic cars ULEZ compliant? And any models made since 2015 have to be don't they?

I KNOW he would not be happy with an Alfa, you‘d have to be into cars with a soul, happy to fettle and not just want them to get from A to B without hassle

But yes, providing the badge isn't an issue, l would say that any model of Dacia is a good shout.

Mileage shouldn’t be an issue if the proper maintenance has been carried out. I’ve just bought a 91k mile CMax, my sons Focus is on 110k.

I once hired a Dacia Duster expecting it to be shit, turns out it drove OK, was reasonably well built and was much better than I expected. Anyone who just wants a reliable basic car would be more than happy with a Dacia imo

Personal mobility was an issue for me and getting older, so I needed something of an SUV to make it easier getting in and out. Doesn’t have to be a big beast but worth bearing in mind.

If the badge isn't important to you I'd pick something like a 5yo vauxhall Astra. If you pick one of the more common variants the parts are produced in very high volumes so they tend to be cheap to repair. You also get a lot of extras as standard and if you shop around you'll get one with 40k on the clock for around 8k

The ULEZ thing is going to bugger up a lot of people up here, my Borough of Hillingdon are 1 of 5 boroughs fighting Emporer Khan's evil plan.
Luckily our VW Polo is OK.
