Fair comment Scotty, I can remember a few away trips ruined by having to watch football, mind you...there have been some good ones too.

I've been to Carlisle twice and seen 2 fine wins.

On one occasion, trains between Brighton & London were diverted via Littlehampton. We borded the train at Brighton at 5.00am and got to Victoria at 7.00 already pissed on some bottles of home made wine.

It's a fast route from London by train (back in those days) so had plenty of pub time before the game too.

Fair play 400 fans was a good turn out for Carlisle

Question: are we going to take more up there than they bring down here? We owe it to ourselves to beat that record.

Somehow, I don't think Wilkins would be calling us 'crackers'. He'd probably start weeping.

Well the BHAlbas will do our best to boost the numbers somewhat. We'll target 25+ this season. And have a couple of these on the way

Brighton to Carlisle is the longest trip that any of the Football League or Premier League fixtures can throw up this season.

To attend every Carlisle away game in 2007-08, you'd travel 10,756 miles by road, to attend every Albion one, 8248.

The Albion's nearest game is Millwall (51 miles) followed by Orient (58) and Gillingham (68). Carlisle's nearest opponents are Hartlepool (90 miles), followed by Leeds (116).

So you can understand why they got quite excited over the Leeds game, although I can't think why they don't seem to treat Hartlepool with equal respect

How much and how long did that take?

brighton to bristol= £30 (return) / 3.5 hours (each way)

bristol to newcastle = £28 (return) / 1.5 hours (each way)

newcastle to carlisle = £15 (return) / 1 hour (each way)

total trip = £73 / 6 hours, far easier, cheaper and quicker than you'd think.....

last year we left at 4am on friday morning, in manchester by 8.30am, had a few hours sleep in our travelodge, night out, then drove the rest of the way on the saturday

it was a fantastic weekend, only ruined by the sheer incompotence of our display that day

Last year was a fantastic weekend.

We went to Nottingham on the Friday, saw Sussex win the title, ended up in the hotel bar with the players till about 1am.

Next day up to Carlisle, only problem was the West Coast mainline was shut, so up to Geordie land and train over.

Shame about the Albion on the pitch that day.

The team flew down.

The club uses the team bus for supporters sometimes on the really long trips if the team are flying as it has better facilities than a normal coach, tables, setanta, sky tv etc.

Mate of mine was on the flight down with them last night. Sat next to one of the players who reckoned today would be a diff game for them and that Leeds would win the league.

The mate that you mention isn't Julian by any chance, is it? He text me on Friday to say that he had just flown down to Gatwick from Manchester with the Carlisle squad.
