...but I notice it doesn't yet have a date for that draw.
Last year it was the day before the league fixtures were announced - so, maybe June 17th for the cup draw this year?

What are the dates of the first round games? Is it w/c 6th Aug, or the week after?

seem to recall reading somewhere that they are during the week prior to the actual season starting!!
Yep, I think that's right. Carling Cup 1st Round is w/c Mon 13th August, with first league fixture Sat 18th.

There's new sponsors for the League Cup next season; I've forgotten who it is though. Making it the first competitive match of the season should ensure some good attendances which it badly needs.

League Cup to be rebranded Capital One Cup in new deal
The League Cup will be known as the Capital One Cup from next season after the Football League agreed a new four-year sponsorship deal.
The competition had been sponsored by brewers Molson Coors since 1998, and branded as the Carling Cup since 2003.
Football League chief commercial officer Richard Heaselgrave said: "This is terrific news for clubs and a great way to conclude the season."
The first draw for the Capital One Cup will be held on Thursday, 14 June.
The first-round ties will be held in the week beginning 13 August and will start the domestic season this year, with the league programme following over the weekend of 18 August.
All Championship clubs - bar Blackburn and Bolton - will be in the first-round draw alongside clubs from League One and League Two.
Thirteen Premier League clubs join Blackburn and Bolton in round two, to be played at the end of August, while seven top-flight sides involved in European football join the competition in round three.
Heaselgrave added: "The Capital One Cup is in great shape having been re-invigorated in recent seasons by a number of memorable finals, some thrilling midweek cup football and a first glimpse of the stars of the future."
The first final of the Capital One Cup will take place at Wembley on Sunday, 24 February 2013.

Anyone know why Blackburn & Bolton get byes into the next round
Basically to make the Maths work - otherwise there would be one too few teams in the second round draw - therefore the two highest finishers from the Championship (i.e. the clubs that came 18th and 19th in the Previous season's Premier League campaign) get a bye to the second round. Wolves, who came bottom of the Premier League, have to enter at the first round with the rest of the Championship clubs.

So that there is the right number of clubs in rounds 1 and 2 so it is divisible correctly for round 3 onwards
