BBC Sport - West Ham v Cardiff

McNaughton may be back. If West Ham beat them easily again, I have gotta think they might be better than Liverpool ??? (not on paper though: only Nolan and Noble really look any good, perhaps Cole and Vaz Te: and Cardiff have Whittingham and McNaughton.)

It will be interesting to see how West Ham deal with a defensive Cardiff? Par West Ham 2-0.

Sam Allardyce: “We’re only halfway there. We have got to be focused on job, try to win and not sit back and protect the lead. We have to go out and deliver a performance like we did against Brighton and Hull at home - if we do we can deliver another win.”

MATCH ODDS
West Ham 8/13, Cardiff 9/2, Draw 3/1.

I would not put on West Ham at those odds. Cardiff could win 1-0 like the opening game of the season. I don't think they will though. I hope West Ham hammer them to death.

Football cliche number 27 applies here; the first goal is vitally important. If WHU go 3-0 up then I think there will be no way back for Cardiff, but if Cardiff get an early goal....

Cardiff two banks of four, but Whittingham is all over the midfield so it is not quite as static and boring as it could be. Cardiff team looks quite strong and settled.

:goal:

Deep cross again. And there could have been a second. West Ham 1-0.

Gus, that's how to take a corner!

Yep. Zonal near post defeated.

Fantastic delivery from the corner by Taylor and Cole heads at goal inside the six-yard box. His effort is blocked but pops up nicely for Nolan virtually on the goal-line and he nods home. Relief around Upton Park.

15: Goal! Kevin Nolan!

19 May Final

We took over the whole away end if I remember? Cardiff City fans seem totally disinterested in coming to London.
