It certainly implies that - but as posted above there is absolutely nothing to stop people from amending the details of the email and turning up with "valid ID"

So i can't believe it will be the case,
The ticket is for duplicate printing of a ticket - you need the email confirmation to print the ticket - not entry to the ground
You do wonder really how many people would bother trying that scam. The duplicate plus ID should be enough to secure entry.

20 mins queuing on phone & sorted - took 3 attempts to be put through. Luckily I'm sat at my desk all day, not that easy for others.
Shame they didn't post the weblink last night.
Club are to blame for this fiasco - citing Post Strike is not good form. Tickets bought day one 28th Nov - all part of the control the Club like to have over us!!

Personally I think the club haven't sent the tickets out. They are using the postal strike as a smokescreen to try and catch people out who are passing on tickets.

I haven't had any post for over a week so asked a mate who a postie to have a look for me this morning. He's just brought my mail round. No tickets. But my Moonpig Christmas cards that I ordered last Thursday were there and they've come from Jersey.

I'm told, the backlog from the strike days is horrific in Bromley (my local sorting office) and the stuff that requires RM to sort is going to come through in a very random manner.
Consequently, I haven't received any post in the past 4 weeks apart from a bank statement and some Sky flyers.
These would have been pre-sorted by a down-stream access provider, before going into RM, so stands a chance of being less delayed.
Moonpig will use the same DSA services which is why you've got your card.

I remember issues at a QPR away cup game where POTG was massively over subscribed and forced entry into the upper tier but can’t recall the time of year

Does it say anywhere how late we can leave it to add ourselves to the list using that link?
I’d like to give the postman one last chance before committing to queueing.

It also says the transaction number is on the email confirmation, but it isn’t!
Yeah same problem here - you can get it from your account details on the ticket site (under Tickets section)

My guess is that someone at the ground will be printing off tickets in readiness for 17:45 - so the quicker people register, the quicker the queue will go down.

Looks like they've set up a ticketing link to request duplicates - great, no need to queue on the phone at least. But why couldn't they have let us know about this before? The communication has been really poor.

Thanks, this has saved me a lot of time.
However not looking forward to having to get to Charlton so early with my boy and girl to queue for ticket to be printed.
Went to sorting office this morning, in Vai hope, but only a card from my Mum postmarked at Gatwick on 7th December.

Club couldn't possibly be sure of the impact until the final post had hit and clearly had this up their sleeve if the phones and web chat got swamped.
Very quickly put the option up when it was clearly going to be a shit show
I don't really see any reason why they couldn't have put this up yesterday though, there will always have been some people who couldn't wait for the post today who would have known they needed to collect at the ground.

I'm sure I read somewhere (possibly this thread) that all tickets had been sent out by the 7th December which was 2 weeks ago. I fail to believe that the every other bit of mail that has been sent to me in that time has made it to my local sorting office (which I've had quite a bit for reasons I won't go in to) apart from some tickets which have got to travel 20 miles up the road.

Oh and for anyone using the online duplicate request you need to find your transaction number which can be found by clicking on your name in the top right and going on the tickets tab.

Just all seems a bit suss to me. Given that it's currently raining and I'm feeling slightly under the weather not sure I can be bothered now. I'll see how I feel after this lemsip.

These sort of processes are normally used for a relatively tiny number of tickets.
Today is very different, and the process is not up to the potential demand.

My guess is there are several risks in the process such as;
  • not having enough blanks to reprint all tickets
  • Running out of toner for the printers
  • The number of printers needed to print the tickets in the available time
Therefore keeping the actual number of duplicates to a minimum is a critical factor.

They have gambled that keeping the option closed until today, will save them having to print 300-500 tickets (pure guesswork on my part).
Whatever this number is, it will relieve an already pushed to the limit process.

Not ideal but probably the least worse option.

It's not like Charlton can't use the blanks or ink and toner etc. for later games though.
There was always going to be a much larger than usual number collecting because of the strikes, I understand they want to minimise the number but compressing the time available to deal with the problem doesn't seem like a sensible trade off.

I'm thinking the same. I've received Christmas cards that are franked last Friday, but not my tickets yet.

I think stuff posted during the strikes is most affected. I have stuff that is even tracked that has been sat around for 2-3 weeks now, but bits posted Monday I received today

I genuinely surprised at how poor the club's IT facilities are. I would have thought it would be very simple to send an email to the ticket buyers with a link to a webpage to confirm tickets have arrived or not.
It seems odd that there’s nothing on the club website - it’s like they don’t think it’s a problem.

Sorry I assumed you were joking.

The club haven't failed to mail the tickets. The strikes/Xmas mail/Recent weather have caused a massive backlog in unsorted mail.

The point you are missing is how mail sortation works.
I work in the industry so know a bit about this, but still it only really occurred to me today.

DSA providers (UKMail/Whistl etc) supply the mail from Printers across the country, into the correct RM distribution centres, ready sorted into the right orde for RM to prepare for delivery by the postie.
Items distributed by this method will be delayed by the strikes, but in general will be delayed by a predictable amount of time.

At this time of year, parcel post goes through the roof and a lot of it has guaranteed delivery terms so will be prioritised at each sorting office.

Anything that has been dumped into a post box or handed to RM for them to sort (our tickets) is going to have huge delays.
Strikes/SNOW /XMAs period have all combined to make this period, the absolute worst time to send unsorted mail.
