My car has recommended tyre pressures on 2.2 to 2.4, depending on loaded or unloaded. I had all 4 tyres replaced yesterday by a reputable company.

When driving yesterday the pressures ranged from 2.4 to 2.9.

Should I lower the pressures down to what is recommended?

(This sort of thing stresses me out and is a classic issue for the neurodivergent. The company guys are the experts, not me, but what they have done doesn't make sense to me. I should add that they always seem to do this, and the pressures in each tyres are not even set to be the same. )

Advice gratefully received. I all likelihood I will nip out shortly and reset the lot to 2.3. HWT.
Lost me by using bar rather than PSI.

But as others have alluded to the tyre pressure reading will increase as the tyre heats up through driving.

A few weeks ago, when we had the first cold spell when the temperature dropped from double fingers to around 3, my tyre pressure light came on, as I was about to start my return trip from London at about 10pm.

I didn't fancy getting my mobile tyre pump from the boot to inflate all the tyres slightly, so drove home at a reduced speed until the light went off as the tyres had warmed up.

I checked the tyres the next morning when they were cold, and adjusted the pressure.

Always best to read and adjust the tyres while they are cold, believe this will be recommended in your handbook.

2.4 = 35 PSI 2.9 = 42 PSI if pressures set when cold and you drive car would expect pressures to increase by 5 PSI so between 35 and 42 not really wrong.
Ps if car stood outside overnight in freezing temp pressures will be lower.

I'd burn their premises down to be on the safe side and to punish them for causing this dilema.
Will be where we always saw we'll be today at 3.30 ish.

(In fact, I made the mistake of noticing and commenting on one of the operatives leg tattoo.

A brief chat ensued :lolol:

Is the garage / tyre centre open today?
Have you been back down there or rang the ‘experts’ to ask their advice?
I may do that. Thanks.

Trying to read tyre pressures on the sidewall of a wet, dirty tyre is a complete pain in the arse.

Have a look on the passenger-side door sill - the correct tyre pressures for the make and model of your car should be stamped there too.
Cheers. It is on the inside of the petrol flap. It maps to what @Cotton Socks sent me. 2.2 or 2.3. Off to let some air out shortly

They will, yes - which is probably where HWT is getting his numbers from and/or the manual which will say the same.

But the tyres themselves may say something different which might explain why the tyre-fitter has inflated to the level HWT is seeing.

Not that I'd have any idea what to suggest if the tyres have differing pressure ratings than the car itself wants!
Just called them and their only explanation is they may have a faulty pressure gauge as they 'followed the guidance (which is 2.2-2.3). Hmmm.... They agreed I should nip out and drop the pressure down. They offered to take a look at the tyres too...

We shall see,

Thanks for the good advice everyone

If it was Kwik Fit I wouldn't class them as reputable company. I waited all day once only to find they'd changed the wrong tyre!!!

Might be stating the bleeding obvious but most manuals cover a variety of versions of that model of the car so make sure you have got the right variant and that tyre size shown in the manual matches the tyre sizes on the car.

And as others have said, check the pressures when they are cold, not after a long drive!!!

Yep ... I had all 4 tyres changed a few years back. I know what they're like, so immediately took my car to a garage to check pressure. All 4 were different and bore no resemblance to what they should have been.

They also put a tyre with the wrong speed rating on once. The invoice was correct, but fortunately I checked the tyre before driving off and so they had to change it.

This better not be a thinly veiled excuse to get out of that hug you promised me later today.
