Right, let me start by saying I am a complete car Spaz and really have no idea. I am looking for a decent car on a hire purchase agreement, for the last six years I have had a peugeot 206 and then a 207. I may stick with a peugeot but wondered about other options and am looking to the great NSC for advice.

What cars around the £10,000 mark are good or better? I do not need anything super powered or fancy. Are ford, VW or others any better.

I thank you for advice and apologise for being a complete dunce :dunce:

Ford Focus, no question, for that money you'll get a belter.

Ive had a Peugeot since 2004, has now done 159,000 miles (used to use in prev job as a rep!) never had any issues - would recommend them.

If you are after HP check out offers at lingscars.com they do some good deals. A friend is on their third car with Ling.

I also would recommend lingscars.com

she is a basket case but great service; my merc arrived in 10 days from ordering.

remember you are not buying just leasing but work out what your costs would be in owning a car/ car loan/ servicing etc. Leasing is cheaper for me

Really? someone else said that to me, why is it better than the Peugeot (excuse my ignorance)?

If you check sites like What Car? - New and Used Car Reviews, Car Deals, News & Advice or Autocar.co.uk – the online home of the world’s oldest car magazine, first for industry news, car reviews, road tests, videos and more
you'll see it's very highly rated. I have owned both and believe me the Ford is a better built car as well as out performing the Peugeot in every area.

Ford's take abuse and along with Japanese cars are the best cars for people with no interest in lifting the bonnet..imo

If you love fiddling with cars..buy an Alfa. Probably the worst possible car for people like Wilko though

I'm sure someone will suggest a Golf somewhere along the line. But for £10k, you'd get a pretty shiny Focus, and a newer one than an equivalent priced Golf.

There's a Volvo Estate for sale up the road. Grey, Reg no. HN55BHA for just under 10K. Hope this helps. :dunce:

Driven loads of Focuses (diesel) for work, and I have a petrol one myself. They are very reliable and not that expensive when things do go wrong, well compared to Japanese models anyway.
