Hopefully Forster, he is probably the best player in our squad, clearly cares about the club and has done a good job as captain so far, no need to change it

whilst NF is an intelligent player i wasn't impressed with his ability to motivate the players as captain last season. His position and the way he plays means that he is often too far from the action. Captain or not NF's play won't change, such as his constant chipping away and head shakes at the linesman/referee. Last year elphick needed an experienced player/captain alongside him to help, as Butters did in the previous season, and having his captain at the other end of the pitch didn't help.

Not Whing - he hardly has enough puff to run back, let alone shout!

Virgo for me, unless we sign an experienced midfield player in the mould or Horton or Wilson, unless of course Dicker becomes that player.

To my mind it seems obvious that a captain should not be a striker as that position should be further up the pitch at most of the time - I think a natural captain's role would be either midfield or defence. Given what other people have said - ie that Elphick is too young and that we currently have a wealth of centre backs anyway any of which may lose their place i think that the captain will probably end up being a midfielder. With wingers also (hopefully) being involved with action further up the pitch this leaves a central midfielder - I would suggest Dicker but it could be el Abd or Virgo if they can learn not to go in like a bull in a china shop.

Never should have been Forster in the first place, IMHO - strker is not the best place to captaqin the team from. Virgo for me - but is he regularly going to get the nod ahead of Elphick and Tunnicliffe? Maybe Dicker, if he's going to be a regular first choice.

Woooaahhh hold on there, you just suggested that el abd could be a choice for captain? I really hope that is some sort of sick, sick joke?

Virgo would be a good choice in my view.

And for those people slagging off his form last season...May I just remind you that for the majority of the season we were managed by a complete CLOWN. Said clown refused to play Virgs in his natural position at CB. Oh no, he preferred to use him at centre mid and on the RIGHT WING! :nono:

When played in his proper position by Slade at the end of the season, I thought he looked solid. So I don't think there should be any argument about his form last year.

Exactly what I thought when I read it!! Its a tough one though. My gut instinct says Gary Dicker, as he's in the middle of it all, and he always looked composed last season. Bit young right now perhaps though?

Agree about how Forster's play won't change whether he's captain or not. Virgo's the obvious choice, but has to be playing regularly to justify giving him the armband, as with so much competition in defence there's no guarantees about that. I trust Russ to make the right choice though

I understand the comment about El Abd - he would be captain material if he was good enough to be in the team. However, I doubt we'll see much of him this season. El Abd has always impresed me with his passion and commitment to the cause, he is fairly vocal too. If he were a regular I could understand why he would be a candidate for captain. But, as I just said, I doubt he will be a regular starter for us this season.

Isn't Lynch the youngest ever player to have captained Brighton? I'm sure one of the fact-finders will know...
