I know Im going to get laughed at here but Ive been trying to drink lots more water recently as I dont think I drink enough, especially as I work in a hot and humid enviroment and sweat alot.

What I was wondering is can you have too much?

Im currently drinking anywhere between 3 and 6 litres a day and while Im pretty sure thats not going to do me any harm I dont know if thats doing more good than bad, or visa-versa?

Oh great know all world of NSC can you help me??

Thanks in advance for all the oh-so whitty comments that are bound to crop up

Yes. Anything taken into the body in large enough quantities can poison you. It's often the cause of death in people who've taken 'E' because they overhydrate.

Leah Betts - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Betts' funeral took place on 1 December 1995 at Christ Church, Latchingdon; she was buried later that day next to her mother at St Mary Magdalen church in Great Burstead, Essex. An inquest determined that her death was actually not directly due to ecstasy consumption, but rather the result of the large quantity of water she had consumed, apparently in observation of an advisory warning commonly given to ravers to drink water to avoid dehydration resulting from the exertion of dancing continuously for hours. Leah had been at home with friends and had not been dancing, yet consumed about 7 litres (15 pints) of water in less than 90 minutes, resulting in water intoxication and hyponatremia (low sodium levels; in this case due to the dilution of blood), which in turn led to serious swelling of the brain (cerebral oedema), irreparably damaging it. However, SIADH caused by the ecstasy, reducing Betts' ability to urinate, may have exacerbated her hyponatremia. At the inquest it was stated by renowned anti-drug campaigner and toxicologist Professor John Henry (known briefly by the nickname "Mr E"), who had previously warned the public of the danger of ecstasy causing death by dehydration, "If Leah had taken the drug alone she might well have survived. If she had drunk the amount of water alone she would have survived."

Yes you can. There was a news article not too long ago about some radio competition challenging people to drink the most amount of water. One of the contestants died as her organs failed (or something like that)!

All the guidance for taking on board water during marathon running warns against taking on boad too much water. In fact they have had more deaths due to drinking too much water than too little over the years.

its dangerous mate, some actor pegged it not so long ago after drinking loads of water. Loads of people die of it, it upsets your metabolism...

Yes.

People have died from this e.g. Leah Betts post ecstasy tabs.

3 litres approx is a normal daily requirement via drink and food.

Drank over the course of a day I'm sure it is fine. Should you find yourself dropping dead suddenly it is probably time to cut down...

I'm not exactly small (about 6' 4 and 14/15st) and do alot of running and obviously drink a lot of water whilst doing so. I would struggle to drink more than 4 litres a day even when doing a lot of running, so I would say 6 litres seems possibly a bit too much.

When I said 6, I doubt Ive acctually ever drank that much in a day.

Thanks for all the advice, I'll keep it around the 3ltr mark from now on

Its not a topic for wet humor, with a whole family involved in Medicine I have been told of many people who have had severe mental problems by overdrinking water

But we're talking A LOT OF WATER here. Not just a few water bottles, Im talking about ponds, pools and other small bodies of water

There difference is after an 'E' is that it stops the function of urination.

Water intoxication happens when a dehydrated person drinks an enormous volume of water at one time. It's very uncommon.

To put your mind at ease, the kidneys of a healthy adult can process about 15 liters of water a day!

I'd recommend drinking as much as you can and not worrying about it.

2 litres is enough, 6 litres is serious. Your body would pack up pretty quick.

Mayve for 1 day but if you drank that much water for a month you would be dead.

So to put it into context for you.

If you drank your 6 liters of water over the course of the day, no problem. You could drink more if you like.

But if you ran a marathon and then drank 6 litres of water at the finish line, then you might be in trouble.

Im still not sure of the 6 litres in a day though?
