I wonder how close Walton is? He's having as good a season at Walsall as Sanchez did at Rochdale. I think he should probably be on loan at lower Championship level next season, but who knows? I know it's only league 2, but being rated as one of the best, if not the best, GKs they've ever had must count for something.

Anyone know how Even Bigger Scherpen is doing?

Rushworth.

Walton has gone, permanently.

Walton has now permanently signed for Ipswich.

I'm a big Sanchez fan and he will be a very good goalkeeper. He is still relatively young and inexperienced and probably could do with some time out BUT we have no choices in his position at the moment. Steele is no where near a EPL goalkeeper and I do think Big Bob needs some serious competition next season.
Like most of team at the moment, his confidence is shot and he needs a solid game to get some form back.

Overall I thought he wasnt too bad last night- aside from flapping at a cross in the first half (which seems to be one of his key weaknesses) and the let off when Kane took the ball from him. Unlucky with the huge deflection for the first goal, and not a lot wrong with his positioning for the second. Made some good saves that kept us within touching distance and feel sorry for him that he seems to be the fans new number one target of blame.

If anything for the second goal we should be bemoaning the cheap losing of possession and poor tracking back from the defence. As pointed out by some others, all across the defence mistakes have been made, although I suppose the easy thing to do is blame the young keeper for conceding when left high and dry one-on-one with one of the best strikers in world football. :wrong:

Undoubtedly Sanchez isnt in his best form at the moment but bringing in Steele, who is far from a championship goalkeeper let alone premier league, simply isn't the answer. As fans we should be directing our anger at the club for its poor handling of the goalkeeping situation and recruitment over the last few seasons. Sanchez has the potential and all the tools to be a top keeper but we need to bring in a quality back up in the summer.

I think the Scherpen is his back up/competition for the future - at least I assume we didn't pay 4m to loan him out for 4 seasons. Problem with the 'keeper position is that, unlike outfield positions where developing players can be used as impact subs or in alternative formations, the back-up will never get to play apart from the occasional cup game unless the number 1 gets injured or suspended. Loaning out Scherpen in January to get some proper senior-level experience probably seemed a safe bet with Sanchez having a reasonable season at that point.

Simple questions:-

What would the score have been if I was in goal for Spurs?
0-2.

What would the score have been if I was in goal for The Albion?
0-6.

I hate to burst your bubble Stat but I'm pretty confident if you were in goal the score would have been a lot worse than 6-0! I think you might be slightly over stating your ability to play probably the most difficult position on the pitch against elite sportsmen...:D

(I agree with your actual point though)

No bubble burst.
Had I waddled out there Spurs would have had 20 shots in the first 5 minutes, and inexplicably been 0-21 up.

It’s one of the position’s Potter’s been badly let down in by the recruitment team along with centre back and striker.

We should have got in another first team ready keeper as back up and competition. He needs to be dropped/rested for a bit to get his head straight but Sanchez won’t be as he basically has no competition, we’ve got the weakest reserve keeper in the PL.

Potter has made it clear he likes Steele as the backup.

Potter has made it clear he likes Steele as the backup.

He said he likes Steele as the backup keeper for the bench. That doesn't mean he is the competition for the 1st team place but will do a job, knows his place and sets a good example in the dressing room.

Like the rest of the team he is suffering from a unsettled defence and Dunks collapse in form. Fingers firmly crossed Webster is fit and raring to go after the break.

Just imagine for a moment a goalkeeper with Sanchez's good points (long balls out of defence, aerial ability) and the passion and urgency of a former Dutch Marine?

Michel Sanchez ?
I'd love to see that

Gutted for him - especially as Raya played he would likely have got the nod. May move him down the pecking order for Spain now - horrible timing

Dunk's collapse in form? I wouldn't go that far, hardly at his best l'll agree with that, but not long back from injury of course.

We do badly need Webster back to offer us alternatives though, that much is for sure.

Hands up. Sanchez had a superb game today and the last gasp dive to keep out the goal bound shot was brilliant. Well done Robert (and the rest of the boys).
