Absolutely. I was going to start a thread similar to this myself - NSC in over reaction shock horror.

If we do still go up this season I think this bad patch will be a good thing in terms of some of the complacent fans on NSC. It's brought some of them back dowwn to earth thank god. There was way too many assuming posts about our season in the Championship next yr. Now we're doing poorly they can't except it so decide to go OTT in the other direction and really slate our team / management etc...

I'd say only 20% of the fans on here are guilty of that - the rest of us knew it was nothing like a forgone conclusion.

Perspective, then. We are four points clear at the top of the league and in the hat for the third round of the FA Cup, with a relatively easy game to win to seal a tasty tie with Pompey. All excellent.

However, that is now six games without a win in 90 minutes, three of which were against non-league teams way below us in the pyramid. Once is unlucky, three is very poor. By any standards that is a sizeable blip, and there is only one way to get things back on track, and that is a couple of wins. Immediately.

Perspective works both ways. It was a bit of booing for chrissakes. That's football and always has been. Some fans joined in, most didn't. TBH I think the reaction was borne as much out of frustration at being outsung by their imaginative and passionate fans, as it was at not wiping the floor with the spirited opposition. Also, you'll always have irregular Albion fans at those games that want more bang for their buck on the days they do attend. And you'll have the regular doom-merchants that have been waiting for something negative to seize upon all season.

Yes It was disrespectful to boo at half-time, and Gus was right to point that out, and yes we do have a duty to support the team and yes we could certainly do better despite what Withdean obviously is. However I do think Gus was wrong to state that he too could get unhappy (natural conclusion being that he'd clear off). A very unsettling thing to say in hindsight which would do more to effect players mindsets than a few boos rolling down from the stands.

Maybe it was a tactical masterstroke. Assuming the players want Gus to stay, his comments could make them step up their finishing (that for me was the only bad thing about our game on saturday, defensively average, midfield rightly dominant without excelling, but finishing was way off), so as to prevent the boos that could push gus away?

Maybe it was Gus being cute, as there's no doubt they need to step up their finishing. Of late it's turned into a side that needs a heck of a lot of chances to secure a win. I guess that worries him as much as us (frustrating as he identified the need for a reliable finisher early on but couldn't land one).

So, frustration crept in on both sides Saturday. My feeling though is his comment was just how it sounded, a sharp rebuke aimed at the fans. I don't think he's one for the subtle or hidden message.

Couldn't agree more. I suspect for the first time Gus is feeling a bit of pressure. Yes we are still 4 points clear & in the FA Cup but 6 games without a win is piss poor. Colchester & Huddersfield coming up. If no wins then watch the toys being thrown out of the pram.
Now Gus grab us a win & we will have a group hug!

Has played a total of 168mins, the equivalent of less than two games, and already has two goals. One of those goals gave us a win in the league, the other saved us from an embarrassment in the FA Cup.

This young man is new to the country, new to the English league and has played a total of 312 minutes or just under 3.5 games. Is it fair to judge someone's worth after less than 3.5 games in a new country, playing a different type of football?

Thank God we still have some sane people left who have posted in the thread, yet the board still seems to have some utter cack at the moment! "Persepective" may not be best suited to my posting style, but you all get the point! We really need to let Gus know we love him on Saturday, might hold a banner up or something, as perspectively people where in no place to boo him/team on Saturday.

Well said Tooting. It's up to the management team & the players to turn this situation around starting on Saturday. I'll be there, & - like the vast majority of Albion support - I'll be getting behind the team for the full 90 minutes. So here's to kicking on & consolidating our place at the top of the league.

These. I back Gus, he's the right man, he's got us playing great football and we're in a position I'd far rather be in - top but going through a poor 'blip' - than bottom but stringing together a couple of wins. Sandaza has barely played and still isn't even close to fitness, Batti and Chino have both showed flashes of genuine brilliance but are still adjusting to the pace and physicality of the English league, the continual hounding of Barnes is absurd - he gets into positions other players don't, and regardless of how many he's missed, HE'S STILL OUR TOP SCORER. 'But if we had a decent striker getting those chances he'd have 15 by now' is a stupid argument. No striker has a 100% success rate. They all miss more than they score. If Barnes had 0 goals at this time, maybe that argument would hold water. But he's our top scorer and has weighed in with some assists (and looks to be the only player in our squad who can take a penalty) so he should be cut some slack. That said, I do think Gus was wrong to make this non-so-subtle threat to leave, he has to take the rough with the smooth and have a thicker skin if he's ever going to succeed as a top-level manager. All football crowds are filled with idiots and you have to take their idiotic views with a pinch of salt. They were wrong to boo, but Gus was wrong to react that way - and that's the first time I've criticised him since he got here.
