I think most people are toeing the party line by saying we will be happy to consolidate, however in the back of our minds we are thinking, what if!

I think everyone needs to calm down a little.

I think we can along with probably another 16 of so teams!!! The thing with the championship is anyone can beat anyone it's such a competitive league. If we can keep up relatively good form through the season we can well be in with a shout but then so will plenty of others that's what makes this a great division!!!! In recent seasons there's always been a surprise package that's gone up........it could be us!!!!!!!

Under your skin.
If you'd asked me on Tuesday, I'd have laughed at you for being stupid.

Now... I'm not so sure.

We've only won 3 games, and only just won 2 of them, so I expect us to be a fair way off getting promoted - but to answer your question, I think it would be better for us to stay in the championship. Hopefullt do well, get the extra seats, get more fans into the ground, and then get promoted in a few years with closer to 30k watching us week in week out, and enjoying the promotion. Not only are our team not ready for another step up, but we'd get 30 thousand fans to go an watch premiership football, and many wouldn't have been able to enjoy seeing us get there. They'd just come and see us get whipped by prem teams, and wonder what all the fuss is about.

Reminds me of the comments about whether we'd be better off starting our stay in the amex in league one because we'd be more likely to win and build a fan base.

The sort of people that will fill out the 30,000 are the sort who are more interested in us being in the premier league than how we got there. They would be the sort that are excited to see man utd, arsenal, liverpool, chelsea, tottenham, man city, aston villa, regardless of how well we play or what sort of results we're getting.

The squad we started league one with last year is not the same as the team we started this championship season with. Why would we start the premier league with the same squad?

Can we? Of course we can. I think a significant number of teams this year have the chance of getting promotion this year, whether automatic or via play offs. Leicester, southampton, leeds, cardiff, brighton, ipswich, forest, west ham, birmingham, middlesborough, blackpool, milwall, all have realistic chances of making it.

I also think we would make a go of it, while still expecting us to come right back down.

Is it too soon to starting thinking about it? Probably, and we are at risk of getting carried away. I can see this thread being bumped tomorrow for the wrong reasons, but I've been expecting things to fall apart since the doncaster game.

I bet that wouldn't happen.

Blackpool averaged just over 8,000 the season they got promoted to the top flight. They then averaged 16,000 in the Premiership and got relegated. However back in the Championship they have averaged 13,000 over the two games, so thanks to their season of exposure to the big boys they have managed to find an additional 5,000 fans since they were last in the Championship.

Yes we can - see Norwich.

Do we want to ?

I'd say yes - even next season's 31,000 new capacity would not be enough to satisfy everyone who will want to see us play.

The only downside is that the team would need a MAJOR overhaul pdq, and do you know what, I kinda like the players we've got playing so well right now !

This time last year we had four points and weren't exactly full of the joys.

Which rather suggests things can be deceptive at this stage of the season. I'm loving it so far, but forgive me for being cautious in terms of what it all means for the season as a whole.

It is great fun doing well in this league that is for sure and so I don't care too much if we don't get promoted this season. The anticipation of maybe going onto the prem league is brilliant - I only hope it lasts a little while longer! Having said that, we really did very well against Cardiff and this was no fluke result against one of the best teams in the league. We also have players to come back or new to the squad which will only strengthen us further. I really think we have a chance now. But then that for me is the joy - thinking we have a chance!

Good post makes an excellent point. Once a load of people get a taste for the Albion it can be like getting addicted to a pretty strong drug that half wont/dont want to quit!

Can we get promoted? Yes, on the cardiff fans site they were saying Brighton are the best team to play at the CCS. I thought before the season it was possible, now i think it is probable. We have kept the winning mentality. Yeh we didn't play amazing against Donny, Portsmouth or Gillingham but we won. If we can win games not playing at our best then what we going to be like once we hit top form. We have an advantage over soo many teams because most of our players were here last season, we dont need to gel like leicester, west ham, cardiff. Before the season started i predicted 7th. Now i would change that to 2nd. Believe... It really can be done

Man united have scored 98th minute winners many times over the years. Getting the rub of the green has served them well. You make your own luck. We have a pretty sound defence, and an attack that in my opinion cannot be matched by another championship club. Another midfielder and we can do it

This

But I disagree with the bit about the 30,000 only wanting to watch big teams and not caring how we got there.
I have supported/watched Brighton since 1973 but due to my work around the country and 4 years working in Spain, have not been there often.

After the move to Withdean I have only seen them away due to availability of tickets.
Realistically, what chance, even now, do I have of getting a ticket at Amex?
More seats = more supporters.

Can we get promoted.... Unsure, yes flying now and loving it but in a strange warped way I am waiting for us to lose a game
Hopefully a tight game say 2-1 as we will only find out how good we are after a defeat to see if we bounce back.

We are not going to win every game and the roll we are on now will come to an end
Are we then good enough to go on another roll will say if we can go up
