The wife’s in agony as she has a gum and tooth infection from a problematic wisdom tooth. Pain killers and antibiotics haven’t been cutting it so far, and she’s been advised to have it removed as it will be a reoccurring problem if not.

So… where do I turn to in order to find a decent emergency dentist in the Brighton & Hove area? The great hive mind of NSC of course…

Cheers!

A&e would be my recommendation. They used to be able to refer to emergency dental specialists. Although the Tories may have dine for that now they should still be able to give antibiotics and painkillers.

A dentist wouldn't remove them with the gums infected anyway so antibiotics and painkillers is all that you'd get right now from going to a dentist

Stronger antibiotics at least.

And good luck, the pain from dental infections is horrendous

NSC has its own dentist driller

I’ve had a wisdom tooth removed whilst infected. The antibiotics didn’t touch it. My face was so swollen I looked like a chipmunk.

If its an emergency you can call 111 and they assign you to a local dentist. I did this during lockdown. And then having remortgaged my house I was all ready to get the work done.

My dentist won the local 'Dentist of the Year' award.

He got a little plaque.

Mrs WS used Albion Dental in Albion Street a couple of years ago ( recommended by A&E ). They are open late ( 11pm ? ) and take emergencies just as long as you ring them first.

I can’t help with finding a dentist, although I had a very straightforward removal in Eastbourne last year (lower left).

A bit of anecdotal advice to pass on once the deed is done, because they don’t tell you *everything* you might want to know about this surgery. Mine just “popped” out clean as a whistle, I didn’t even realise he’d started pulling.

1. If it hurts, stop, ask for another injection. The procedure shouldn’t hurt while it’s happening
2. Then it will hurt like **** for around 2 weeks afterwards, solid foods just won’t happen.

I had bruising on the left side of my jaw, and it hurt to talk. I’d recommend a minimum 3 days off work recovery, more if you can get it.

After removal, I noticed shards of tooth pushing through the gum for up to a month that followed. This is the (living) gums slowly rejecting the (dead) tooth’s remains. I had one little ******* that I couldn’t get out, but a pair of sterilised tweezers did the trick.

I didn’t need stitches but bled on and off for 24 hours afterwards - they supplied me extra gauzes to take home.

Good luck!!!

Mrs Earle swears by Jim Herold at Nuffield Health.

Jim Herold is fantastic have been referring to him for years - but you need referral to see him and Nuffield is expensive.

I would honestly recommend Andrew Brown at the implant Center.
He is also fantastic at this and a fraction of Nuffield cost.

My word, if you were scared of the dentist before you read this post, you will be absolutely terrified now!

Nothing like putting someone at their ease.

Shoreham dentist are very good, not cheap, she referred me to a specific Dr @ worthing nad had 2 out with a GA. . . . I spent the extra £200 for proper drugs to have a few large fillings re done and a 3rd one removed.

This was after 18 years of swerving the dentist completely! I've been a god boy since and touch wood, nor further problems this last 6-7 years
