Can anyone recommend a decent independent cycle shop which stocks top end components?

Herr Tubthumper has gone green, sold his car, thrown his Highway Code in the bin (clearly wont be needing it anymore) and will now cruise the pavements and prom on his bicycle.

Can anyone recommend a good indy cycle store where I can take my dusty velo for a service?

Bravo for going green. Certainly the best decision I made although cycling round here can be a bit hairy.

If you want to take the ethical route, there is a jolly good chap (independant) just off Waterloo St - Lower Market Street.

Most LBS are owned/run by very passionate cycling people, so you can't go far wrong.

You could always do it yourself, I'm sure you fettled as a boy and the beauty of bikes is that they haven't changed since.

A bit late now, but Baker Street bikes are very good and know what they are talking about.
As for post from Ccider, i'm always happy to get into a car vs bicycle argument.

Just look at the accident statistics and see how many pedestrians are killed on pavements by cars...about 98% higher than by bicycle.
Yep, lots of anti social cyclists in cities go through red lights. But, more motorists commit offences daily....speeding etc.
Besides cycling is good for the environment, its cheap, keeps you fit and stops you getting fat....Ccider, you should try it some time....you might enjoy it!

I do find the issue with cyclists going through red lights and cycling on the pavement etc a tad boring to be honest. What is the issue? In Berlin there are bikes everywhere, and the general public jut get on with it. Over here everyone moans or even worse pointlessly sends a letter to the Argus complaining about people cycling on the Hove prom or something. Get over it.
