I completely support the advancement of 'Sussex By The Sea' as it is the anthem for Sussex (and I am not going to go into the history etc. which I well know), and of which everyone of us should be proud. But I have a problem with the 'popular' words advocated which frankly are not especially appropriate, I mean going up and will win the cup - that may have been so back in the 70s / 80s BUT,

We need to be proud of SBTS and recognise where it came from but, FFS, no-one has ever tried to change the words of 'Land of Hope and Glory' so why should we change the words of 'Sussex by the Sea'

I really agree with promoting SBTS (not GOSBTS to which it is incorrectly referred) but there needs to be some sensible thought about this issue which, I agree, could be massive at the Amex.

PS. I, and one or two others, have majored on this in the past.

Good Old Sussex by the Sea, or should I say, Sussex by the Sea !

Also, meant to say, good luck anyway !

Gosbts slow it down mission

Signed but just to say it traditionally goes 'and when you go TO sussex'

This is what I have been told anyway. I am also in the midst of trying to contact the club regards this and will keep the thread updated if I hear anything.

Alternatively, get a life. There are 18k plus Albion fans at the Amex and just because a handful announce on a forum they want it suing their it suddenly warrants an e-petition and some anorak campaign. As Charlie Brown would say, 'Good Grief'

So don't f***ing sign it.

As I've said before ... the words (as set out in the petition) don't fit the tune that is now played pre-match.

But the new arrangement of the music does fit the way most Albion fans think GOSBTS goes.

If we are going to sing the words as set out in the petition, it will be necessary to revert to the music that was used at Withdean. And, if that happens, I predict a SHAMBLES.

As long as the words move in time with the tune and suitable images on the screen, it should work just fine.... hopefully!

What's wrong with starting a petition? That's a logical prgression when lots of people want the same thing.

What is your point?

Many many people have mooted how much they would like to see the proper words of GOSBTS on the screens and someone has decided to do his best to make sure it is considered.

The petition was started about three hours ago so I would suggest it's doing rather well.

But that's because they only play the first verse, then the refrain, and then stop – we're all being short-changed!

All commercially available band recordings begin the same way: Opening fanfare and First verse [Now is the time for marching…], Then the chorus [For we're the men from Sussex…], And finally the refrain [Sussex, Sussex by the Sea…], Before starting another verse.

Heaven forbid that we should ever revert to that crackly old Withdean abomination. The recording currently used as the source for the Amex version is of decent quality. Now we've got that, it's perfectly simple for anyone possessing basic editing software to cobble together a track to fit whatever sequence is going to be sung. And also to change the key down to a much more manageable pitch!

So, no more excuses – now is the time to get this show on the road!

We'll see... If after a week or two there are still only a handful of people who would like to sing SBTS fairly properly before each game then this will die a natural death. I strongly suspect, however, that the vast majority of those "18K plus Albion fans at the Amex" would LOVE IT if this gets done and works well...

104 signatures... a good start.
I think there should be a lot of people who are well up for this... if there are say 50 people prepared to act as catalysts then the total number should grow quickly - might be that the club pick up on it and act themselves sooner rather than later...
