Time for me to throw myself on the mercy of the NCS brotherhood and enlist the help of those far more DIY savvy than myself. I've tried Yahoo Answers and that miserable bunch haven't even sent a single reply. I should have known better. You all never let me down.

I have a two meter wide by one meter high mirror. It ways 33kg. I am looking to fix it FLAT to a regular brick built wall. The mirror has fittings on each side to slip over a screw or masonry anchor head. Ideally I would simply like to drill two holes and fit the picture using these. I don't really envisage using any hanging wire.

I have never fitted anything this heavy to a wall before. I was after suggestions as to what you think might be the best way of going about this? All suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks.

i fixed a framed poster of much the same size and weight to the wall with two large screws and strong wire. if you've got fixings, go for it.

mine was in place for 5 years without problem. size 12 screws, big f uck off rawplugs

I have done EXACTLY the same thing, pretty much the same sized mirror.

I used three large hooks screwed into the wall with metal wallplugs. Those metal ones are expensive but top drawer and I always spend that little bit more for them on things that I absolutely don't want coming away from the wall, like large mirrors or my utility sink.

These ones are excellent for stud walks, they fan out behind the wall and lock securely in place.

Or these ones: drill the hole, then screw the plug into the wall using a screw driver before screwing in the screw/hook.

The grip rawlplugs that Simster suggested are great, however can be a bugger to get the screws out again if you ever want to move the mirror so my top tip is to put a thin film of vaseline on the screw itself before fixing, believe me, you will appreciate it when you cometo remove.

Put the fixings in the bricks and not the mortar, I have known a heavy load pull the bricks out of the wall with the fixing still attached but that's very unlikely.

???
I think it would need to be a bit heavier than that to pull the bricks out the wall.

A brick wall will hold 33 kg with the correct fixings. If in doubt go to a proper trade supplier and ask for the correct fixings. They know what they are doing.

Thanks Simster. That looks the ticket. I think you're right. As the mirror cost a packet I might as well spend a few quid more on the fixings. Cheers.
