An equivalent of Uber should be run by Transport for London, Tube travel should be free and there should be "e-scooters for everyone" to cut carbon emissions, a think-tank said...

...To counteract this, the report says private cars should have "disappeared from Greater London" by 2030 with alternatives being accessible on a TfL app, including walking routes, buses free for Londoners, tram and Tubes, E-bikes, e-scooters, car shares and e-rickshaws.



Although judging by the reports linked to the article seemingly Brighton will be the only major city standing firm and insisting on killing all it's inhabitants with cars...

Standing at the bus stop by The Priory in Haywards Heath yesterday a chap went up towards the hospital on an electric scooter and I was surprised how fast he moved. He was in the road or otherwise could have caused a problem had he been on the pavement.

We have to travel into London to the Evelina children's hospital 4 times a year with my eldest son who is under their care and have to pay a congestion charge each and every time. There is no way we could get him there without the use of a car. Judging by the sort of patients that the hospital is always full of I cannot be alone in thinking making it car free would impossible

No, they'll be programmed to self destruct if they go through a red light. Or just electrocute the rider, we don't want to waste a perfectly good scooter.

Where will they claw this money back from whilst making everything transport related free?

He was of course breaking the current laws as e-scooters are only legally permitted to be used on private land

I thought that but until Boris brings in the extra 20000 proper police not PCSO there is nobody to monitor it. In actual fact he was moving faster than the cars on that road.

We’ve got escooters here in Sweden, both in Stockholm and some smaller cities. Whilst they are fun and convenient (although not that cheap) for the odd ride here or there, they are a nightmare. They get left absolutely everywhere (in the middle of roads, bike lanes, shop entrances, you name it. Nobody wears a helmet and especially in the evening when people have had a few they are pretty dangerous. Locals here have started throwing them in the water as protest. They have potential but a lot more needs to be done yet.

As a lad I was fined 5s for riding a bike on the pavement, doing my paper round, it is a pity more cyclists were not prosecuted now and made to use the roads.

Of course it is - It is absolutely impossible to be free of vehicles in any town or city - Who would deliver, food clothing, furniture, beer and other saleable items to the retail outlets. Unless they are gonna arrive out of the sky like ET

Yeah, another downside to it is that people need to look so mean and dangerous. "I am a 45 year old riding an e-scooter so I got to do this evil 'Im gonna kill everyone' facial expression. That shit is terrifying. Cant walk far in Gothenburg without bumping in to these Jeffrey Dahmer-yuppies.
