Inigo Calderon on being a striker
Albion Roar: You said that 'keeping a clean sheet is as important as scoring a goal'. Now that's a load of rubbish, isn't it?
Inigo Calderon: I know. I have to say that on the radio. I love to score goals. I LOVE to score goals. I am like a kid - if I score in training I am so happy. Of course, from a professional point of view, my work is just keeping a clean sheet but if I can score... oh my God.
On his goal at Peterborough...
Albion Roar: You scored at Peterborough...
Inigo Calderon: Yeah. It was quite cheap to be fair. It was a corner, and I tried to kick the ball, like, three times. I don't know how you can remember this...
AR: Oh, we watch it all the time...
IC: I want to forget this goal.
AR: Was the the worst goal you've ever scored?
IC: Yeah, probably.
Calderon on Withdean...
Inigo Calderon: No roof on a stadium in England is mad.
Calderon on the first game at the Amex...
Inigo Calderon: I got the first yellow card at the Amex. It was a firendly game. Remember Gareth Bale - he has tried <jam?> and cheat, you know. I didn't touch him...
Albion Roar: He's never done that before...
IC: He's doing it now. He tried to cheat against me.
Calderon on the next match (home to Palace - we won 3-0)...
Albion Roar: With the injuries to Craig (CMS) and to Buckley, and the suspension to Ashley, would you like to play upfront?
Inigo Calderon: Yeah. I would like to, I would like to. I would never consider myself as a full-back.
AR: What's you favourite position? If you had the choice, where would you really like to play?
IC: Maybe centre-midfield. Like I said to you before, I would like to be a striker just because I like to score goals. I am like a kid and a I just want to score goals.
AR: Why won't Gus let you play upfront?
IC: He was thinking that, and we, like, train and we have fun and games and I always want to be upfront. I like to be upfront. I feel like I've been too many years in defence. Now I know what the defenders hate from a striker, so you just have to think - and it would just be a brilliant experience.
AR (Al): A bit like Adam Virgo. Virgo was a centre-back and Mark McGhee stuck him up front, helped by Steve Claridge
AR (Ady): The only place Virgo didn't play was in goal, and I'm sure he would given the chance.
AR (Al): Do you want to play in goal?
IC: Let me tell you about another small dream. 93rd minute, and the goalkeeper is sent off. It's 1-0 and it's a penalty. And I have a really good side, and I dive one way - I'm not going to say which way - and I am going to save this goal for sure.
AR: I love all these fantasies coming out. How many times have you won the World Cup?
IC: Ah, that's too much for me...
Am I the only one reading Caldes part in a Spanish accent?
