Brighton agreed to a blind bid from Liverpool and Chelsea but Liverpool’s bid was higher. Caicedo’s agent insisted that Chelsea could bid again (possibly because he was getting a bigger percentage?)
It wasn’t the decent way of going about a transfer.

Probably from Brighton too considering the sums involved....

End of the day it's agents and clubs and rich people haggling over where a young naive footballer plys his trade. The whole thing is unsavoury. But if Caicedo had the release clause in his contract and Mac Allister didn't, maybe it would have played out in reverse

If, buts and maybes. Caicedo was doing well until he changed his agent in January 2023.

Surely it’s clear that Caicedo threw his toys out of the pram, had his head turned, forced a move when we didn’t want to sell him, didn’t think he was ready.
MacAllister seemed to go very much with our blessing - it was time for him to move on, and we were happy with where he was going, which is validated because he is doing well.
maybe if Caicedo had gone to Liverpool…….

We didn't have any choice about Mac Allister going because he had made sure there was a release clause in his contract. So blessing or no blessing he was off.

They really didn't. It's very much in people's minds that they did but aside from the musings of Fab Romano and the like what other noise was there about the Caicedo transfer? All we know is that he'd made agreement with Chelsea and waited for Brighton to accept an offer from Chelsea, which is basically exactly what happened with Mac Allister and Liverpool. Everything else was noise and gossip. And when each of them left they both said very nice things about us.
There was the small matter of announcing to the world that he'd signed for Arsenal about 3 days before the January transfer window slammed shut, and apparently he'd also cleared out stuff from the training ground well before either Chelsea or Liverpool had had bids accepted.

And you're clearly not alone. I do find it a bit strange considering both players were great for us, both clearly wanted to leave this summer, yet one is treated well and the other appalling. Why? Just get these nebulous answers like 'mac allister left in the right way, which is such a load of wishful thinking bollox'

I don't feel animosity to either of them personally.
I also feel no animosity towards Caicedo, I still see him as an Albion player I loved (I know loved is a bit strong, but he was a big part of our best ever side). I'm glad he performed well after his moved to Arsenal was denied, but he was a bit of a knob in the way he went about leaving. He justified his move to Chelsea rather than Liverpool by saying that he'd been in contact with Chelsea for a long time - bit weird given that he wanted to go to Arsenal a few months earlier, and also quite annoying given that he was supposed to be playing for us, not lining up a move to our opponents.

Enjoyed watching the Mac vs Caceido battle. Mac obviously playing better and didn't seem much love lost between them. When Caceido moved to Chelsea I found it hilarious how badly he was playing (Bridcutt Mark 2) but tbf now when I watch his hopeless fouling and almost-a-red-card-every-game I feel a bit sorry for him. He really has gone from being sublime with us to a bit of a liability.

McAlister, White, BDB, Trossard and (eventually) the petit shitehouse have done well. Factoring in them and the duds (Bissouma, Caisecdo, the one at Chelsea with the massive barnet whose name I have literally forgotten, as have Chelsea), we have managed to get five times as much money in than they are collectively worth.

I feel a little sad for Caicedo. Like Mudryk he’s on an 8 year contract and £150k a week. From other manager’s perspective they are unlikely to be able to step in and purchase a player who may be struggling at his existing club. From Chelsea’s point of view, if the player is struggling and their head goes down, where do they find the motivation to improve when all the while they can buy a Lamborghini every week and still have change left over.

Agree with that, but I think BDB could be at his zenith now. But boy, he’s done brilliantly.

A player who needs to be managed. At Chelsea you are a mere chess piece to be moved around by a rather distant (and uninspiring*) general, or simply left in the box. Players who need intense coaching, and perhaps a bit of a cuddle, like Caceido and Mudryk (coincidentally both rather primitive religionists, praise the lawd), can in the space of a few weeks go from Balon d'or candidates to utter dogshit.

*Comment by an ex player on the radio this morning that Poch admitting they were playing for penalties, against a team of infants, toddlers and embryos, will be something he will never live down.

Which would be nice.

Oh his role is different there, he's left quite isolated so he's expected to be more of a disruptor, breaking up opposition play, winning the ball and then giving it to someone to play a more direct ball forward. At Brighton he was part of a whole team playing close knit possession football moving the ball quickly through neat triangles with just one or two touches. The few occasions yesterday where he did that he looked like I remember him, but most of the time he was ignored in possession and forced to make a succession of low percentage tackles out of possession.

Reading most of the posts on the chelsea forum they are pointing the finger mainly at Poch than at Caicedo
I agree with you here. He was the initial pivot but then part of all our passing patterns. He was charged with winning the ball high after we'd attacked but was young, quick and strong enough to come back and make good recovery tackles. He was absolutely key to RDZ ball last season and we've not replaced it, a proper box to box midfielder. Chelsea don't use him that way.

I don't agree with you here. Romano is a Chelsea mouthpiece and he only had eyes for them even when we accepted a bid from Liverpool. Some might say the agent's percentage of an even higher fee and 8 year contract would be far preferable, never mind what other transactions might have taken place. It was murky, unpleasant and disloyal. I hope the bloke rots there.

Not forgetting the Spanish lad who picked up a losers medal whilst warming the bench and gazing into space. Long forgotten even as a dud?

Easy to forget a player who, with the signing of Bart, had effectively been demoted to third-choice keeper by the time we sold him. I was surprised we got any sort of fee for a player that clearly wasn't wanted by the manager and could have potentially just been a burden on the wage bill. To get £25m was astounding business by BHA and equally astounding incompetence by Chelsea.

If he had taken the Liverpool offer he would be in a title and Europa league race and have a winners medal already around his neck but went for the cash at Chelsea where they will now be hoping for a chance to match Brightons old target of establishing themselves as a team in the top 10.

He looks shot of confidence, lost and nowhere near the player he was for us. In comparison Macallister is now one of Liverpool’s most influential players. Macallister had good people around him and is a lot smarter than Moises so has made the right move for his career.

How does Caicedo keep not getting sent off? He should have gone against us and last week against city. He was also arguably lucky to stay on the field yesterday.
He gets caught up in the emotion, and makes rash tackles. I don't think he'll react at all well to the reception he'll get from the Amex crowd, when they come to us, and I'm 100% having a flutter on him getting a red that day.

His tackle yesterday was on a similar level to Gilmour's red. It wouldn't have been overturned by VAR if the on-field ref had given it and should certainly have been a yellow, and he should've already been on a yellow by that point.
