Good advice.
Most new guitars are decent these days, even budget ones. If you could stretch your budget to £89 something like this would probably be far easier to learn on than a random charity shop guitar.

Ive improved my collection of basses and guitars over the years by picking up unloved grubby things, cleaning, service, re string and set up . . . . A Danelectro U2 (Nothing to do with that Irish band) for £90 for example, 90's Korean, good quality, easy to play, sounds good.

Id up your budget to at least £100 . . . . You'll get something playable . . . Fender made a range of student acoustics which are very playable and sound good too . . . You should be able to find one for about £100. . . Or a semi acoustic electric, electrics are easier to play generally

Bass players are like manure. Get a load in a crowd together and they stink, but spread a few good ones around and they improve everything

WE INTERRUPT THIS THREAD WITH AN APPROPRIATE JOKE DU JOUR
An English explorer was trekking through a remote jungle with a local wise man he had hired as a guide. Two days into their journey, far from civilization, they began to hear the faint, slow beating of drums in the distance.
Dum. Dum. Dum. Dum.
The Englishman said to the wise man, “Is that anything to worry about?”
“No,” said the wise man, “Drums not bad. Only bad when drums stop.”
As they pushed farther into the jungle, the drumming gradually grew louder and faster.

The Englishman felt uneasy and prodded the guide, “Are you quite sure that's all right?”
“Yes,” the wise man assured him, “Drums not bad. But when drums stop...very bad.”
Farther in, wading through the thickets and bogs of the deepest, darkest jungle, they could hear the drumming becoming more urgent.

Before long the drumming had surrounded them, sounding mere inches away, the deafening rhythm accelerating to a frantic pace.
