anyone bought one recently?

just trawling through the net , you get a good idea i suppose but then you always come across a bad review.

i want a compact
minimumm 8 mp
big zoom would be good
obviously takes good pics in all situations

currently in first place is the ricoh caplio r7
then fujifilm finepix f50 or f40
lumix tz3
or canon ixus 850

any ideas?

I bought the new Panasonic 10x zoom part of the DMC TZ3 or the new TZ4 or TZ5 which is a bit expensive but the zoom is fantastic and puts other cameras to shame. It may be a bit bulky but if you want a great zoom and good picture quality them get one of these.

Bought one of these for the missus, picture quality is good and is very lightweight.

KODAK EASYSHARE V1003 Zoom Digital Camera

Mine was £99 in Curry's.

NB. Also it has this feature: Digital Image Stabilization using anti-blur mode. Reduce blur caused by camera or subject movement.

Which has been a problem with a lot of Digital cameras I've used.

don't worry so much about megapixels (unless you're into printing giant pictures) .. the best advice i got was -

buy a canon - they make the best digital cameras full stop.
sony have carl zeiss lenses
panansonic have leica lenses

so one of them 3!!!

i have an ixus and it is beautiful, love it.

Agreed. I mean how many people actually print pictures anymore?!?

For a computer screen 0.3 megapixels should be plenty. The only requirement for anything more than 4 megapixels is if you want to print at a larger than A4 size.
