I'm consulting the NSC oracle here on a matter of great importance. I've never seriously considered staying at Butlins, probably partly through ignorant snobbery, maybe too much Hi-de-Hi as a kid, whatever. But with two young kids, my wife reckons it might be excellent value for a short break.

Anyone been? Any good? Or will I just be watching X-Factor rejects on a stage all weekend?

Kids love it.

It's noisy.

It's not that cheap, but if you're not tied to school holiday dates, it gets cheaper, obvs.

The entertainment is 'opt in', so you won't need to watch XFactor rejects!

It's probably not as chav-tastic as you think.

My 2 boys aged 10 & 8 just spent a week there with there Grandma (who is a real snob) and she loved it, they had a fantastic time loads to do, lots of entertainment and they can't wait to go back.

Hope that helps

I went to one in Suffolk about 8 years ago for a weekend.

I was expecting the chavs of course, but not the fact that the room smelt of piss and the food was utter slop.

Never. Again.

If anyone ever graced the Ocean Hotel Saltdean, they would find all other Butlins akin to the f***ing Lanesborough.

That place was so deranged and creepy, how a horror film was not made about it I do not know.

That's clever considering there have only been a Butlins in Sussex, Devon and Lincolnshire since 1998. :lolol:

The thing about being a sarky pedant is...it's always best to get it right. Minehead is in Somerset.

I worked up there and lived in for a couple of years in the mid 80s, the only thing that was creeping in the middle of the night was us staff making a beeline for a young maiden's room.

Sadly sounds like Sandford Park in Wareham. Went there when the first England USA game was on and the police had to be called after a ruckus. Apparently this was the 3rd weekend running they had been called as well. The problem isn't the camps but the Sun £9.50 holidays that bring the scumbags out of the woodwork.

Been to Minehead many times, though years ago,and children love it.Parents can have some fun ,too, though sometimes the "camp" seems run down and the accommodation can be a bit iffy..........don't forget these chalets are in constant use and you never know who (or what) has been there before you.

Minehead beach is somewhat dubious, though there are lots of arcades to occupy some folk.......see if you can grab a toy in one of the machines!

A decent town park with putting green, and sometimes a silver band on the weekend! The West Somerset Railway terminates here.Have a go on the steam trains! Go to Blue Anchor for the best old fashioned caff left in Christendom! Dunster and its National Trust castle just two miles away,or walk it to clear the head ! The Old Ship Aground on the harbourside! Exmoor and the Quantocks.......have a pony trek, visit Coleridge's home! Hold a snake at Tropiquaria or use their adventure park ! Visit the Bakelite Museum down the road in Williton..........Taunton for the cricket (shops for the wife)!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH I,m lucky to live here !
