I know it's frustrating Les but as I posted earlier they would'nt do it if they did'nt need to and at the end of the day you want a safe railway to travel on.

Tis true I know, just the most frustrating thing is at Wivelsfield they hardly have any signs to tell you this and the bus stop is round the corner. The amount of times I have turned up for the train and it is buses only to find I have missed it because I now have a 3 minute walk round to the bus stop is very irritating.

They should have signs up at every station advising people of impending engineering works, Mind you I got pissed off with the bus confusion at Brighton station on Saturday and ended up walking to Preston Park.

Those ones in the Portsmouth area have been causing me problems since September. Will they ever end??

The Portsmouth job is'nt normal track maintenance it's re-signalling thats going on down there which is slightly more time consuming, It is a bit behind schedule though.

It pisses me right off, every f***ing weekend for about the last 2 years. There must be some point when they can stand back and go 'right that should keep us going for at least a few years'.

Can see your point of view mate, and sympathise fully, but after nearly 20 years of the Tories first starving British Rail of cash, then flogging off the network to greedheads (Connex and Railtrack were EVIL) who voluntrily starved the network of cash and passed the money straight to their shareholders and directors, there's a mega-backlog of work to be done. It'll be good when it's finished

All true, just more of a day to day bug bearer than an overall moan up. The main thing that annoys me about southern is the prices, does anyone know why they are so much higher than the rest of the country?

Every time I go past on the train, those men in orange jackets just stand at the edge of the track watching the train. If they actually did some work, then they might get it finished on time.

So they should be as well, It was no different with the Horsham resignalling either! Never had these problems back in the BR days.

You have to stand in a position of safety when a train is passing you when your working on the line it stops you getting run over.

That would make sense. Thanks. You seem to know a lot about railways. :)

It would be rude not to seeing as though they've been paying my wage for nearly 30 years, Typing that makes me feel old now. :(

Cool!! I want to do summer work as a train conductor / dispatcher. But I doubt they take summer holiday students for that.

I'm not sure they do summer jobs for students and I would'nt recommend it unless you want to take abuse on a daily basis, Shift work plays havoc with your social life as well.

It's something I've always wanted to do.
And who said I had a social life? :lolol: I appear to spend my evenings on here!

Trust me if you worked on the railway they'd soon knock that enthusiasm out of you, And railway uniforms must be the only uniforms that nobody has ever found attractive. :lolol:

I think I recall pink ties on FGW! The women's uniform looked quite appealing to me. Maybe I have odd fashion sense though.
