67 minutes, in the PL, as it goes.

What matters though is that we HAVE trusted them to play (16 combined EFL Cup apps / 2 x FAC / 4 x PL), and as such they are now considered 'available players' when the PL are considering any future request for a match postponement.

Its (at least partly) why Newcastle and Burnley fielded no U23s in any of their EFL or FA Cup ties, at any point.

Burnley may think it’s in their favour to keep getting games postponed while they have a few out with Covid etc, but I’m not so sure it won’t come back and bite them on the bum later.

They could get to the business end of the season, fighting to avoid relegation, and find themselves playing twice a week every week for a month or more - which suddenly doesn’t seem so smart after all.

Because the special 'Covid' postponement rules agreed by Premier League owners before Xmas (but after our Wolves match - grrrrr!) mean they don't have to.

Which is why I'm surprised they have requested this. As pointed out earlier, they have had a number of games called off that they were ready to play and their opponents called off. Although pushing a couple of games back might be advantageous in getting a Wood replacement and getting Cornet back, stacking up this many can't be good in the long run

That wouldn't be a problem for this game - Burnley 3 Watford 0 on 15th December, when Watford couldn't raise a team. There would have been no rearrangement. The idea that Watford should have the game put off when they were short staffed, but Burnley should have to play now that Watford are back up to strength - hardly fair, is it.

Because they don't have any incentive to play the fixture right now. There is no motivation for any team looking to strengthen this month to play fixtures. Why would Newcastle play when their squad will be much better in February? How about Liverpool wanting their African players back? The Premier League has incentivised postponements until a full squad is available.

I'm not sure Liverpool want to avoid Brentford & Palace to make sure they have their AFCON players back.

I just heard a snippet of Sean Dyche on 5Live discussing this.

He said in training this morning they had "10 recognised first team players". It doesn't sound unreasonable that they make up the numbers with younger players, as other clubs have done already.

Annoyingly, they don't have to.

In their Covid rules, the Premier League themselves defined a first-team player as anyone in the squad of 25, or any U23 player who has played a first-team match, in league or cup.

So some clubs (see also Newcastle) are opting not to promote an U23 in league or cup matches, reducing the size of their pool and increasing the chances of postponement.

Blame the CEOs and their reps for their hole-ridden rules, not specific clubs.

Yep, clubs could call fans out of the stands to make up their team like in the war.

As mentioned earlier, they have made a point of NOT using any young players in cup games (even at 4-1 up against Rochdale, the two subs they brought on were matt Lowton and Chris Wood) so that they don't have to 'count' them as 'senior' players in this context.

Us (and Leicester) both playing U23 match tonight with a PL game tomorrow. Wonder how big a chunk of our team will be U18s in case the U23s are needed tomorrow.

The team we fielded was very strong though no? Embarrassed we even asked based on 4 cases, 2 of which were Locadia & Steele.

It was predictable that everyone was clamouring to know 'what is the required level to get a game called off' - the Premier League buckled and explained what the rules were, and now guess what - everyone is finding way around the rules. Sadly inevitable.

However at least for Burnley it does not surprise me if they cannot name 13+1 GK with at least 1 appearance in PL or EFL or whatever it is, because they already have a small squad, don't really have an academy. Arsenal on the other hand....

I guess because the rules are as Wozza said! I’d just scrap it, you have to play otherwise you forfeit
