Agree. Marney is also top quality at this level. A good example of a team of very capable players, devoid of any 'big names' or flash Harrys. Good luck to them. It's also hard to dislike Dyche.

Does any one know their system? I presume its 442. Effective with the right personnel. Solid but not very dynamic.

I see plenty of claret fans living just outside Rochdale and go to a couple of games a season ,they really do have a team mentality and seem to pick up lower league players and improve them .Their last 2 managers i have always rated as being from the school of bringing in from the ranks of the lower leagues and the reserves and Burnley owe nothing to the banks or any directors ,even when they went down from the prem they did so knowing that 20m was going to be spent on the cricket /away end and no debt .It pains me to say this but good luck to the dingles.

I think their big key is they play 2 up top and what a partnership it's turned out to be. Last year they played 1 upfront.

The players motivation is Burnley getting the final parachute payment this season , if they don't go up their wages will be cut or they'll be let go to trim the wagebill whereas some of them will be good enough to play in the Premier League with Burnley next season.

Marney signed a new deal on reduced wages just before the summer, as did Ross Wallace. Vokes signed one a few months ago. Jones, Arfield and Heaton were free transfers this season and will be paid in accordance with FFP in mind. The wage bill had to come down and Austin, Martin Paterson and Chris McCann went, with the latter two not wanting to sign new deals on reduced wages.

They have some very underrated players (I thought their two full backs, especially Trippier were some of the best in the league) and Dyche is an underrated manager. Got Watford to a better league finish than Mackay (who is highly rated) despite having a bang average squad. Good luck to them I say.

A friend of mine who's a Burnley fan said the big difference is Ings - he's had a lot of injury problems in the past.
I think Dyche is a good manager - he's got a lot more out of Vokes thanGus did. As a few people have mentioned, I've always been impressed with Trippier when he's played against us. It'd be good to see them go up automatically to show that you don't have to spend a fortune ot get to the Premier division.

Personally I think they have been very fortunate this season with their injuries. They have a solid 4-4-2 nothing special there, the players all know the Dyche system because they have been drilled endlessly. They have no big time Charlies, just a team of workers who grind out results. Unfortunately like Cardiff should they go up Burnley will be totally out of their depth. But good luck to them and hope they enjoy the sunshine.

Genuine question. What IS their secret? Horribly unfancied at the start of the season and our win against them at home must have been one of our easiest of the season at The Amex. I was absolutely certain they would fall away once the season got going. Sean Dyche is an Ok-ish manager but not someone who normally comes to the fore when big jobs are talked about. No big money owner that I know of, comparably small crowds (bigger now they're doing well mind) in an FFP environment.

Yet they are undefeated since Christmas and today's win over Derby gives them a real shot at automatic promotion. Barnes can't get near the starting line up. 10 minutes for him today. How are they doing it? ANYONE?

I've been banging on all season about how utterly bewildering it is that they are up near the top.

They are a poor footballing side.
They were dire at the Amex (couldn't even get the ball off us in the last 15 minutes) and were not much better at home to be honest.

No idea why they are second, all they do is pump the ball into the box.

If they do get promoted (and I don't think they will) they will have to make sweeping changes, as they will be destroyed week in week out - probably
