Waiting at the station for train home. I honestly thought Potter was trolling the away support that first half. As bad a line up and performance as I’ve seen in the Premier league. Low and behold play players in their right positions and we looked a football team and bossed the second half. We’ll pleased for Moder and Mac. Don’t think Emwepu is Prem ready!

Thought I would write my full time message now:

“Amazing game. That’s what character is about and we’ve got bags of it. Our history shows that. To come from two goals down. What were Celtic doing with Duffy? Amazing header. And a Maupay hat trick. That is what top ten teams are made of! The Amex will be jumping!”

This cider is kicking in.

Close enough, I suppose.

They’ve more or less turned VAR off for this season.

They would have concluded that the ref saw the push so no need to question his judgement. He was a clear Homer today.
Surely they should ask him to look at that again? Talk about swinging fron one extreme to the other. Normally any infringement against the attacking team is penalised and he blatantly double handed shoved him. We were livid.

Massive difference second half with our WB's playing much further forward and Lallana pulling the strings and calming us down a bit. Sanchez grew in confidence as the game went on too so hopefully his first half will ground him a bit after a successful summer.

What today did highlight was what we already knew, massive lack of depth at LB/LWB/RB/RWB and lack of another option up front although Maupay did well and showed good desire for his goal, pleased for him. Pleased for Ali Mac too as I really like him and felt he lost his place a bit undeservedly last season when he was playing well.

Think Potter got things a bit wrong today but you can't fault his substitutions to win us the game. Massive result despite 60 mins of dire football, let's hope it is more of a lack of sharpness.

I appreciate Sanchez had a shaky first half but massive credit to him for the last 10/15 minutes. Those claims he made fron crosses were massive, gave me so much confidence we’d hold out so it must have been the same for the defence.

I expected some real scares in the last few minutes but they just didn’t come, largely thanks to him.

It was a disgraceful decision, really thought it would be an uphill struggle after that and their deliberate thuggery.

Seems a scrappy game that we rode our luck in a bit, but a cracking result and start to season. UTA !!

First day jitters? A lot of the games have been all over the place.

Home advantage seems to be back with a bang! We are the only team "so far" to win away (*looks at Liverpool*).

I'm more surprised we beat a #teamlikeburnley tbh. We've been awful against bottom half teams. So that result was quite refreshing! UTA

Good result - but being realistic, it was a lucky result. Burnley should have been out of sight in the first half. The second half was a lot better - but there are still some serious questions about the squad.

But then again their goal should have been disallowed which might have changed the course of the first half. And last season we should have been out of sight at half time away to them but ended up hanging on for a draw.

Ultimately, none of the ‘should haves’ matter because we won the game today and as we were told many, many times last season, it doesn’t matter how well you play, it’s about getting points on the board, which we did today.

And winning your first game of the season is one of the best feelings in football.

So please take your negativity elsewhere, it’s not welcome here tonight.

It was a really good result - and everyone should rightly enjoy it - but it is only realistic to acknowledge that Brighton were lucky - and sometimes in football you need a bit of luck.

There are 37 games to go and I suspect the team will need a lot more luck. There is no evidence on today’s performance that they have made progress from last season and there is a £50million hole in the centre of the defence. Here is hoping there will be many more good results and the soft underbelly from last season isn’t repeated.

Just got back from the game and read your post. I’m not sure how you can call that second half lucky. We totally deserved that victory. Bissouma was the difference between those two teams. Burnley were poor.

It goes both ways. Last season we were very unlucky but today we weren’t. We have made progress because we would have lost this game in previous seasons but we turned a gash first half into an excellent second half.

£50 million hole in the defence … really! I think not based upon Ben white’s performance yesterday.
