I got the following email from a Burnley supporting mate up t'North:

"I'd like to extend my sincere thanks on behalf of all Burnley fans for taking GNW off our hands even if it is only for 3 months. I've seen NorthStandChat - and bless them - they think Gifton is your new saviour. Sorry to spoil the party - and you can post this if you want - Gifton is crocked - properly crocked, arthritis both knees - he just can't run anymore. Unfortunately, he can't shoot either - and despite once scoring two penalties against you last season - we are still looking for ball after he took one for us this season. I genuinely hope he does a good job for you,
but I think 90 minutes of watching him and you'll understand. In saying that, he can hold the ball up a bit . . ."

Oh, bugger....

Plenty of those Burnley comments seem to suggest that he was not given a proper chance, very few say he's no good so I am hopeful that his presence may take the weight off our lightweigh forwards. Confidence is a big thing, two draws followed by a win on saturday could be just the lift we need.

To be fair, I suspect Burnley are not the only club to diss a player who they haven't seen the best of, perhaps due to Akinbiyi being the man at the club.

They are not the first club to slate a player that leaves and won't be the last.

From what I have seen of him, I think he will be a useful player.

I do hope you are right. Does anyone know if there was a proper medical and if so what it said ?

from the Burnley board on GNW

I like the bit about catching them, are they n drugs up there?

Do you think its a good idea to wish a player good luck for a side who is below us in the league, and with the way we are playing, has a decent chance of catching us?

If I was still in touch with an old mate who's a Swansea fan, I'd have been telling him all about Leon sulking, going missing, diving, and basically wasting his talent. 20 mins into his debut I'd have been looking like a bit of a lemon.

Who would have told us Mike Small was a good signing when we made it?

Nah, I'll wait and make my own mind up thanks.

I've got a Burnley supporting colleague. His take on NGW is that he is not your out and out goal scorer, but does weigh in with a few. Particularly at the end of seasons. That maybe due to the fact that he has got arthritis in his knees. This stops him playing well in the winter, but he is ok at this time of the season. (so hopefully it will get warmer....maybe the South Coast will suit him).

He built a great partnership with Akinbiyi at Stoke, but couldn't do it again with Burnley. Although, both players had similar roles.

My mate said that if we are looking for a player who can hold the ball up and create for someone else, then he will do that job very well. He said that he is the best hold up of a ball in this division, basically defenders cant shake him off due to his size.

He will score some goals, but just as importantly he will bring our other strikers into the frame.

If we have faith in the likes of Gatting/Robinson/CKR/Hart to poach goals or have it laid onto them, then this guy will do just that.

All in all I think he will do ok. He has something to prove and we really need to back this side like never before. Its not as if we are getting beat 5-0 every week, we just need to score more than once in a game.

I just hope we haven't left it too late.

Good point. Similarly, Bristol City fans might have been alarmed at taking Trolley having read the comments about him on here this season, but he scored for them last week.

Sometimes players need a change of scene to revitalise them (or maybe just a different gaffer !).

All i'm worried about is whether he can last the season due to his reputation of being crocked 50% of the time.

Our past experience of spotting a potential crocked players is not the best - Blackwell, Rodgers, Roberts, Kitson, and now El Turi and his dodgy hamstrings and his abilty to injure himself by running!

isn't that what fans always say when a player goes?

at least it's a fresh face around the place and if he does hold the ball up a bit then even that would be a massive improvement on our current situation.

come on then the gift, 5 goals could be enough to keep us up! welcome to the dogfight!

:clap2:
