Hurst Green
A friend lived there up to 6 months ago, he reckons there is, surprisingly, a real drug problem in the town. Been there myself and found it to be very pleasant (apart from all the stoned kids !)

Make sure you go to Kent's Cavern in Torquay - World Heritage site & really interesting.

Dartmouth is just up the road - very nice - and a bit further afield, there are beaches at Bigbury-on-Sea and Bantham that are lovely. If you don't mind the fine shingle, Blackpool Sands is also very nice and there is a lovely cafe on the beach.

thanks for that
staying at private owners site.... hoburne torbay holiday centre, goodrington sands, only cost £290 for a week, and thats 4th july, its yrs since i went to torquay, and just remember lots palm trees and it being so mild ..

Are Wookie Hole and Cheddar Gorge around the Burnham area? Went to both if my memory serves me well?!?

By the seaside in West Somerset
I have a caravan just inland from Burnham/Breen towards Glastonbury - great for exmoor and dartmoor is in reach plus the levels of course. It suits our needs and we often travel down to the Devon and Dorset coasts but given the choice for a short break where I want easy stuff to do each day I have to say Torbay is the safer bet

Weston/Burnham/Breen are the nearest seaside to Birmingham so it sometimes helps if you can understand the brummie accent rather than the local yokels. Like most rural areas with little to do there are plenty of drugs available.

I read somewhere that more midlanders sign on the dole in Torquay than locals and there is a big drink and drugs scene in the area but no worse than Brighton I guess and you mostly can ignore it pretty much
