why dont the anti royals f*** of to another country they where here long before them and will be here long after, like it or lump it

Don't want to, thank you very much.

And given the broken lineage of the Royal Family, I think your point is debatable. I think, genealogically, I am quite possibly more English/British than the Queen.

I may be an anti-royalist but at least I can speak, and write, the Queen's English.

Nothing wrong with the Windsors that a fully loaded Kalashnikov wouldn't put right!

Like Germany? No can't do that, thats where the Queens lots from her name is Elizabeth Saxe-Coburg Gotha. But i do like Denmark, bloody hell thats where Philips lots from the Shlesweig-Holstein- Sonderburg-Glucksburgs. So where did the name Windsor come from......oh yeah they named themselves after a castle we gave them. That sounds more British. :ffsparr:

What makes me chuckle is that many of these Royalists will be Labour who despise the inherited wealth associated with the aristocratic Tories, yet turn a convenient blind eye to the Monarchy.

But then look at kano's post above. He's talking like the Crown Estate belongs to the queen or royal family. It doesn't. She's not making the country any money at all off that land, because it isn't her land!

No he's not. And she is making the country money on that land - she's being paid 15% of the profits manage it on behalf on the country. The other 85% goes back into the country's coffers. So in other words if she makes no profit for the country on that land she gets nothing.

If it really does cost £200m for the Royal Family then considering how many people that keeps employed I'd suggest that is good value for money. The Queen and her employees than pay income tax and NI so some of it even comes back to the country.

By all means argue that we shouldn't have a head of state who gets the job by birth right rather than being elected ( although I fully support the system as it is ) but to use vague and ill throughout figures to back the argument up somewhat does your point of view an injustice.

If you think it costs the nation a fortune to support the royals i suspect your letting your prejudices colour your judgement when you read articles about their running costs.

A running theme seems to be the argument about what RIGHT do the royals have to be there. I dont get it tho...

Who cares? Are you so unhappy in your lot in life? If they are removed do you think someone is going to come round your house and give you a crown or sceptre and say "there you go pal that's your share from doin away with queeny, sell it and go on holiday"?

OK, i accept they dont do anything to earn their privileges...but how exactly will it improve your lot in life to see a national institution removed?

I have nothing wrong with peoples lineage, quiet the opposite acutely. I think the diversity we have is one of the greatest things about our country. But, and this is part where you need to engage you brain. This was a response to someone saying that we Republicans should "f*** off to another country they(royals) where here long before them" ( them being Republicans).
Not Shakespeare but im sure you get the drift. The idiocy of the statement is highlighted by the very point you make. The British royal family is a genetic hotchpotch of lines strewn together going back to the Habsburgs (who loved their interbreeding) and beyond. They are just the same as us, a mixture, they are no better or worse. But the truly shameful thing is that this country still hold's them in power giving them the rights and privileges to all the best things be it education or cultural denied to so many in this country. Why?

For about £1.50 per head we get a conservative estimate of £20 billion of tourist income annually, let's just agree that its a fair return..... remember they don't come here for our weather and beaches....... its living history...... they are part of that whether you like it or not.

Interesting that you bring up interbreeding in your post, as we have quite a bit of it going on in the UK these days. Marriages to first cousins are responsible for about 30% of the UK's birth defects. This is a new cultural practice for the UK and it has been bought here by some of these isles newest residents. Something you can put that in the pantheon of diversity along with honour killings and forced marriage.

There is nothing shameful either about people holding the current head of state in esteem. For someone who thinks the UK's diversity is great, it seems counter intuitive that you would cast out an institution that has been in this country's DNA for over a thousand years.......for good or ill.

But then the alternatives are hardly vibrant are they...........more suits, and more political dynasties like the Kinnocks, Alexanders, Churchills, Sandhursts, Harrmans and the Millibands.

And what does it change? As it is we vote in a Parliament who cannot even control this countries borders or who can stay in the country. the people with the real power, status and benefits are not voted in by us either..............did you vote for Rompouy, Borroso or Buzek? I bet they have cost this country more money than Elizabeth Windsor.

Honestly don't start on the tourism path. Look back at early post on this thread just would just be repeating myself.

Are you honestly comparing the European government to the Royal family? Come on! I maybe wrong and if I am apologies but i get a strong whiff of UKIP in your post. Staunch followers of the Royal, the boat race, morris dancing and anything else British through and through. You may not like those people but they have been elected to office as representative for said country. Thus allowing them a democratic vote at the heart of Europe.
I didn't vote for the royal family to have the powers they hold. I take it you are aware that its illegal for our politicians to even discuss the legitimacy of the royal family? Its seem's roughly 25% of people mostly young, don't want them yet our voice isn't even allowed to be put forward in parliament. The subject has been made illegal in circles of power.

For all those who want to keep this stupid, tawdry, tradition, you reap what you sow!

Tradition? Like running down a hill chasing a cheese? Or a Ploughman's Lunch? Please. You fancy an elected head of state? Voted in by the 'great British public'? :(

Errr ..... many of the most powerful people in the EU have not been elected. So in that respect we have unelected head of state and so does the whole of Europe.

Yes, yes I am. Herman Van Rompoy is the President if the EU. You will remember that his role was created by the Lisbon Treaty. This was the treaty that Labour promised in their manifesto in 2005 that the UK would get a referendum on..........sound familiar? Only the European political elite got to vote for him........as only they do with the President of the Commission (Barroso) and Parliament (Buzek).

The EU in its current form is completely undemocratic, it was purposely designed to be so.......this suited the political elite but now the bukkake years have come to an end and all there is left is a f*** off BBC that we are all going to have to suck forever. Not everyone want too, and now we have electorates lurching to extremes. Sound familiar?

The european politicians who went along with this charade (including ours) have royally f***ed their own countries, and largely without any electoral mandate. They should all be tried for treason. The real irony is that we are so deep into the shit I am not sure if there is any digging us out........even euro sceptics like Hague are encouraging more integration.

But, I get the whiff of a sixth former, full of piss and wind and not paying any tax but with a massive sense of his own political self importance. When you are older and have stopped your bouts of furious musturbation in the box room you will realise that she (and her descendants) are always likely to be more popular than ANY politican. They dont lie, and if they do its not over anything important.

Yep too right , when you moaners bring in as much as her , you can moan , she gets paid what she is entitled too . God bless her !!

See every England fan was singing God save the Queen , as i witnessed it in Ukraine 3 times now , every body sung their hearts out for her .
