Should they be banned?

Irrelevance.

They already are. They are a pit bull breed and should not be owned by anyone.

At the very least they should have a muzzling order on them.

I have no idea why anyone other than a criminal moron would want to own such an ugly, dangerous, monster. Let alone have it in the house.

I’d like to see the breed wiped out.

What say you?

One of our 13 year old's school pals was excluded for effing and blinding at a teacher a few months ago (for the umpteenth time). This kid has 9 brothers and sisters. Several are in care. Several are being 'home schooled'.

We have stopped our nipper visiting them after they announced (you guessed it) they were going to buy a XLB a few months ago.

They live in Canterbury, Kent, England.

I simply don’t understand how anyone would want that in their house.

As with all things in life a minority spoil it for the majority. Yes they should be banned, because they are attractive to people who can't manage them, who use them for nefarious means and who don't think the rules apply to them. I read yesterday that these dogs "got out" which is why they weren't muzzled. Had the dogs actually been trained? Socialised? Odd that they would come running out of a house where they supposedly got free from and then chomp on the first small thing running by...

Sad they had to be put down, but a complete neccessity. The owner caused the loss of his dogs. I hope he cannot own dogs ever again. The poor woman who watched the destruction of her pet in such a gruesome manner must be beside herself. How horrific for her.

If you think citronella spray will stop an XL Bully attack then... I think you're being a tad optimistic. I've read that twisting the dog's collar as hard as possible behind it's neck (to cut air supply) might help if a smaller dog than a bully is attached to yours but again you'd have no chance of this with an XL Bully. You cannot stop a XL Bully attack unless you shoot the dog.
Can you knife them? Serious question.

Depending greatly on how you came to be in possession of a knife, if a dog were attacking a human, I think you’d get away with knifing it. At that point I personally wouldn’t care about how I got the knife or what consequences occurred. The XL is getting knifed.

Not sure about another dog. If it were my dog? Again, the XL is getting knifed

Can you knife them? Serious question.
Many years ago a Staffy or a Staffy like cross, maybe similar to an XL attacked my neighbour's wife while visiting relatives.

My neighbour rushed into the garden to help her, grabbed a garden fork and stuck it through the dog's neck through to the ground to pin it there. As he tried to get his wife inside, the dog's strength and determination lifted the garden fork out of the ground and continued to attack them with the garden fork still sticking out of it's neck. Fortunately that gave him the chance to grab the handle again, the dog slid itself off the garden fork, and he then stabbed the dog through the neck again, and this time stamped it firmly into the ground with the dog still going nuts.

The dog was still thrashing about when the police arrived and destroyed it. This was all in the news at the time, and his wife suffered some pretty horrorific injuries. So in answer to your question, the question would be, how big is your knife?

He wasn't one for exaggerating either. When the dog lifted itself off the ground with the garden fork still hanging from it and came at them again he said it was like a horror movie, blood everywhere, screaming, pretty unimaginable. He got it done though and saved both his wife's and her dad's lives who was also attacked.

These breeds don't really feel pain when fighting - hence over hundreds of years they were bred for fighting because they don't stop until one of them is dead. Anyone thinking that in the throws of a savage attack they're just going to be able to get a knife out - it's going to have to be a big f***ing knife!!

Yep, that is one heck of a thing to do. Good on him.

Jesus though! Wow.
